Rediscovering Ireland's Divided Past: "A Deep Ravine " Explore the Story of Ireland's Border through Music and Drama: "A Deep Ravine" at the National Concert Hall, Dublin. Music Generation Cavan/Monaghan proudly presents a powerful and evocative performance of "A Deep Ravine – Reflections on a Divided Ireland," set to take place at the National Concert Hall, Dublin, on Sunday, 01 September at 6pm. This event showcases the creative talents of the Music Generation Cavan/Monaghan Cross Border Youth Folk Orchestra in a performance that delves into the profound history of the Irish border. "A Deep Ravine," composed by the acclaimed musician Michael Rooney with a script by writer Tommy McArdle, offers a deeply moving reflection on the era of partition in Ireland. Through music and narrative, the performance brings to life the experiences of those who lived during the formation of the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, inviting audiences to explore and understand the lasting impact of these historical events. The newly formed Cross Border Youth Folk Orchestra, featuring over 100 young musicians from #Cavan, #Monaghan, #Tyrone, #Fermanagh, #Scotland, and #Ukraine, brings this ambitious work to the stage. Local actors from Monaghan and Cavan add depth to the narrative, with the performance presented and narrated by RTÉ host Sean Rocks, ensuring an evening that promises to be both engaging and historically resonant. Commissioned by Monaghan County Council and Cavan County Council, and funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, this event is a key part of the 2023 Decades of Centenaries Programme and the Creative Ireland Programme 2023.
