Since launching two years ago, our pre-employment training and placement programme has helped graduates step into meaningful, permanent roles. Today, 8 incredible team members are bringing their talent, energy, and passion to Dalata, making a real impact on our teams and business. Winning the Outstanding Diversity Initiative Award at the National Diversity & Inclusion Awards was a huge moment for us, but it’s just the beginning. With a third programme underway and plans to expand into the UK and Europe, we’re committed to leading the way in inclusive employment. Hotels are part of a bigger ecosystem, and businesses have a role to play in protecting nature. With pollinators supporting 75% of global food crops and biodiversity under threat, action is needed. At Dalata, we’re taking action in three key ways: Protecting and enhancing ecosystems When planning new hotels, we assess the local environment to protect and enhance biodiversity. This means incorporating green spaces, maintaining existing habitats, and ensuring that nature thrives alongside our operations. Supporting pollinators Bees and other pollinators are essential for a healthy planet, but they’re under threat. That’s why we support the Irish National Pollinator Plan and similar initiatives in the UK, creating spaces around our hotels that provide food and shelter for these vital species. Taking action in our communities Protecting biodiversity isn’t just about policies—it’s about people. Our hotel teams take part in local litter picks, making sure the spaces around us stay clean and safe for wildlife. We also get involved in Earth Week activities, raising awareness and encouraging sustainable behaviours among our teams. Small actions can lead to big change, but it takes all of us working together. We recently asked Which pillar of mental fitness is most important to you? Emotional well-being came out on top at 49%, followed by financial stability at 37%. Social connection and physical health ranked much lower, which raises an important question; are these areas getting enough attention? At Dalata, we know that happy, supported teams perform at their best. That’s why we prioritise all four pillars of mental fitness. We offer mental health support, financial education, and career growth opportunities. We foster social connection through team events and recognition, while also promoting physical health with wellness initiatives. Having released our 2024 Annual Results, we are pleased to report revenue growth of 7.3% and an adjusted EBITDA increase by 5.1% to €234.5 million. Our Group RevPAR increased by 1% to over €115. Trading in early 2025 has been strong and future demand indicators across our markets supports our positive outlook. We would like to thank our people, who embody our values, delivering for our guests and wider stakeholders every single day. Our success over the past year reflects their dedication and hard work. In line with our 2030 vision and in addition to our results, we have also announced a new 4-star Clayton hotel to be converted from an existing office at 60 Morrison Street, Edinburgh. Subject to planning, the all-electric building targeting a BREEAM 'Excellent' accreditation will comprise 256 bedrooms, a ground floor restaurant and bar, a dry gym and extensive meeting facilities. How can hospitality be a force for good? We caught up with Shane Mulchrone, Social Impact Manager, to talk about how we’re using our platform to drive real social impact. What unique opportunities do hospitality businesses have to drive positive social impact? Hospitality is all about people, and social impact is essentially the impact on people, so there is a great correlation between the two. With over 5,000 colleagues across major cities in Ireland, the UK, and now continental Europe, we have a unique opportunity to create change. What is your approach to building effective partnerships with charities? In late 2021, We asked our colleagues what social issues mattered most to them, and ‘Health and Wellbeing’ was the clear priority. This led us to three key partnerships: The Marie Keating Foundation, Leukaemia Care and Air Ambulance NI. They all provide incredible supports and are supported through our fundraising events like our “Dalata Digs Deep” month, our Dalata’s Got Talent and “The Great Dalata Cycle”. How does Dalata ensure its Social Impact Strategy aligns with broader business objectives? Inclusion and Diversity are core to how we operate, helping us build a truly engaged workforce and provide better service to our guests. Attracting and retaining a talented and diverse workforce future-proofs our business as we grow. At Dalata Hotel Group, we’re committed to sustainability, and 2024 has been a milestone year for enhancing our waste management practices. A dedicated Waste Management Committee – comprising, Tony, Michael, and Caitriona – has led the charge, delivering tangible results through innovative and impactful initiatives across our properties. One of our standout achievements has been the introduction of waste champions in every property. Supported by our environmental sustainability leaders, these champions have been pivotal in promoting and monitoring waste segregation. From checking bins and cross-referencing collections against invoices to maintaining bin collection records, their efforts have driven real progress. A comprehensive training programme delivered by the committee has equipped our teams with the skills and tools to enhance our waste management practices further. Our focus on segregation has already paid off, with improved recycling rates observed across the business. This year, we’ve also gathered detailed data on the composition of general waste, including items like electrical waste, batteries, paint cans, ink cartridges, and bulbs. This data will underpin a group-wide plan to safely dispose of these materials, ensuring they don’t contaminate our waste streams. We’ve also strengthened relationships with suppliers, including Panda in Ireland, while tendering new waste management contracts in the UK. On the ground, our properties have reorganised external waste areas, reduced the number of general waste bins, and decreased collection frequency – all contributing to a reduction in carbon emissions. To support these efforts, we’ve introduced innovative solutions such as general waste compactors, cardboard balers, and glass crushers. Our housekeeping teams have made excellent progress with new bin dividers, further improving waste segregation in their departments. Reducing food waste has been another key focus. Programmes like Too Good To Go, now active in 47 hotels, have made a measurable impact. Many hotels are also embracing initiatives like offering doggy bags and refining menus to minimise food waste. Looking ahead, we’re trialling a composter at The Samuel in the coming weeks, further supporting our sustainability goals. These initiatives reflect our continued commitment to reducing general waste, improving recycling rates, and promoting responsible disposal practices.
