Department of Education hosts kick-off meeting of new project on strategic workforce planning for teachers The Department of Education today hosted a meeting to kick off a new project focused on strategic workforce planning for teachers in Ireland. Officials from UNESCO, the European Commission and the Department of Education were joined by key stakeholders from across the education sector for an exploration of the main objectives, roadmap and intended outcomes of the strategic workforce planning project. The project will draw on both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including a desk review of relevant literature, statistical analysis, surveys, interviews and focus groups. It then will go on to examine EU and international good practices in the planning and management of their teacher workforce, incorporating peer-learning workshops and a study visit. Co-creation with educational stakeholders is an integral part of the project. It is envisaged that the recommendations put forward in the context of the project will form the basis for the development by the Department of Education of a strategic workforce plan for the teaching workforce in Ireland. The project is supported by the European Union via the Technical Support Instrument (TSI) and implemented by UNESCO, in cooperation with the European Commission.
