About us

Our company was founded with a mission to deliver real value and comfort to people at risk. Our story began in 2019 when Chris Lee and Aidan Breen, while working on innovation projects for a large European re-insurer, saw the potential of parametric insurance to help financially vulnerable people in advance of a storm. This led to the development of a forecast-based hurricane product that could potentially save thousands of lives and prevent billions of insured losses. With support from Shipyard Technology Ventures, Exante was formed to bring this innovation to life. As our experience in building parametric products grew, we realized the need to create a platform that could deliver similar products in a seamless and structured way. Thus, the Exante platform was created to bring together data sources, risk carriers, and distributors, making it easier to develop and deliver customized parametric products. At Exante, we aim to bring simplicity and transparency to an industry that is often characterised by frustrating customer experiences and antagonistic relationships. We are committed to building on our vision of delivering real value to people at risk, and we invite you to follow our LinkedIn page to stay up-to-date with our latest developments.

This is pretty cool! This Italian TV Commercial for solar panels features the Zurich Insurance 'Sole Protetto' policy which is powered by the Exante platform! The Sole Protetto guarantees that a buyer of solar panels will receive the average amount of sun every year, or be compensated if it falls below. We do it parametrically so there is no need to claim. This directly addresses one of the biggest sources of skepticism for solar buyers and helps drive panel sales and the transition to net zero. So it is a win all round!

Is it Cake is a Netflix reality show where contestants are shown an item and asked to identify whether it is real, or whether it is a hyperrealistic cake. At Exante we've found ourselves thinking the same way about AI. Our co-founder and CTO Aidan Breen tested the OpenAI and Google chatbots to see if they could help us identify the causes of business interruption in our business continuity indicator. The results looked good, but when we cut into them, they turned out to just be cake! Have a quick read of his short blog post to discover some of the pitfalls of generative AI.

CEO and co-founder Chris talks about the impact of rioting on retail businesses in Dublin on the big shopping weekends in the run-up to Christmas how we can use data to assess the impact on businesses and how we'll soon be able to parametrically detect BI and compensate businesses accurately and quickly.

Dublin has emerged resilient from a challenging weekend, albeit bearing a few bruises, but still maintaining its spirit. For those who may not be aware, there was unfortunate rioting in Dublin last Thursday evening. The scenes were alarming, and the rhetoric unsettling. However, I must commend Dublin City Council, our public transport providers, and the police for their remarkable efforts in swiftly cleaning up the city and reopening everything. Notably, Arnotts, one of our major department stores, was looted on Thursday night but managed to reopen by Friday lunchtime. While the immediate situation appears to be under control, the lasting impact on the city's reputation is undeniable. In my latest video, I delve into the enduring repercussions of reputational damage on retail areas like Dublin City. Additionally, I highlight how Exante's live product utilizes electronic payment data to assess the short, medium, and long-term effects of events like this on businesses heavily reliant on footfall. Watch the video to gain insights into the broader implications and how data-driven tools can aid in understanding and mitigating the impacts on businesses in the aftermath of such incidents. #Dublin #ReputationManagement #BusinessResilience #Insurance #Innovation #ParametricInsurance P.S - I am pretty quiet in the video, believe it or not I am still fairly nervous talking insurance in public places!

🌬️ Impact of Storm Debi on EV Owners 🚗💡 #StormDebi left around 110,000 homes without power. This poses a new challenge for Electric Vehicle (EV) owners, especially those who rely on home charging during off-peak hours. Many EVs, like my mother's I3, automatically start charging around 5 am to be fully charged before peak electricity rates kick in at 8 am. Unfortunately, Storm Debi hit around that crucial charging time, leaving many homeowners powerless, literally and figuratively. Power outages often affect entire communities, meaning neighboring EV owners may face similar challenges, increasing the demand for public charging infrastructure and alternative transport options. At Exante, we've worked with a forward-thinking insurance provider to address the evolving risks associated with EV adoption. We understand the importance of supporting this transition by anticipating and mitigating challenges through insurance solutions. For instance, our parametric policies can offer peace of mind, providing compensation to EV owners experiencing overnight power cuts. A parametric policy that pays out €50 to an EV owner who faces an overnight power cut may not be particularly useful in a world where the taxis are fully booked, but offering someone a parametric policy that guarantees to pay them out €50 and only asking for a nominal premium goes a long way to remind them that these inconveniences, while annoying, are rare. No one walks their first tightrope without a safety net. The net gives them the confidence to build their experience. Insurance that people can trust plays the same role. Whether it's solar PV, heat pumps, EVs, or otherwise people are facing new transitions and insurance can play a small role in supporting those changes. #ElectricVehicles #EVAdoption #InsuranceInnovation #StormDebiImpact #ParametricInsurance⚡🌐

This year's winter storms have presented huge challenges for businesses already. Closures to infrastructure, floods, and weather warnings have all caused localised business interruption - if you're an insurer trying to verify BI claims, assessing where has been impacted and where hasn't can be tricky. We have worked with partners to get access to a unique data set, daily debit and credit card transactions, and we've designed an API and Dashboard to visualize that transaction data as a business activity heat map. So confirming localised drops in business activity, is now just a few clicks away. #businessinterruption #parametricinsurance #exante #naturaldisasters #weather #transactiondata #businessactivity

Our co-founder Chris Lee gives this teaser of one of the most exciting projects we're working on! Exante is proud to play a role in addressing the challenges of the transition to net zero, and our work on solar is one part of that journey!

Exante has some exciting news coming! I tease some of it here. Parametric insurance can help with transitions by specifically targeting the things consumers worry about. In the case of rooftop solar, that might be whether they'll get the amount of sunlight hours they're being promised by their installer. A parametric policy that guarantees those hours of sunshine is a small but extremely effective way to increase consumer confidence and sales conversion for solar installers. If you work in the solar or utilities space and you're interested, reach out. If you work in another field that faces a similar customer conversion problem, Exante can build a solution for that too. #insurance #innovation #parametric #esg #solarpv #solar #rooftopsolar
