Today Cabinet approved the publication of the new Mental Health Bill. This bill has been a priority of mine since I was appointed Minister of State Department of Health - Ireland for Mental Health and Older People and will be published next Wednesday 31st August. The Bill will move to Second Stage in the Oireachtas as soon as the Dail recommences after the Summer recess. The new Mental Health Bill replaces the Mental Health Acts 2001 – 2022, containing 197 sections. The new Bill includes regulation of all community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). The Bill provides a modern legal framework that will protect the rights of people with mental health difficulties in the decades ahead. Many thanks to all those who worked tirelessly to get this 202 page bill to this stage.
