Responsible Plastic Management (RPM) Program CIC is the future for construction and the RPM Program is delighted to award John Sisk & Son Ltd with the Zero Plastic to Landfill Certificate for the Vantage Data Centers Site. It is fantastic to see the fruition of all the hard work and innovation of the Sisk team combined with the vision of Vantage for their ‘next generation data centres’. Certification was achieved through a rigorous external evaluation of plastic inputs, waste data, site audits to review best practice and visits to their waste contractors and recyclers to confirm end fates of plastic from the Sisk operation in order to verify they meet the requirements of the Zero Plastic to Landfill Challenge. It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our CEO and company founder PJ Feerick who passed away on Saturday after a short illness. PJ was intelligent, determined, visionary in his field and above all else, a true gentleman. He was a caring and beloved family man, cherished colleague, a scholar and friend, he will be missed by many, but never will he be forgotten by those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Its astonishing to read that the US recycles less than 10% of plastic waste and how much of that 10% is exported across the world where recently ABC news traced Walmart plastics to unregistered recyclers in Indonesia, is this recycling? Yet companies such as The Coca-Cola Company and Nestlé Research & Development that place large quantities of packaging in countries around the world, including Ireland, refuse to have meaningful discussions with' Polymer Alloy Technology t/a PALTECH a company that currently recycles their plastics on a daily basis. Paltech products can convert millions of tonnes to long life useful products yearly. Products for the construction industry, utilities and road safety are already proven and they have markets all around the world. This is a controlled repurposing of these materials that ensures all materials processed are no longer a part of the problem with the added advantage of replacing high co2 emitting materials such as concrete. Done at scale 20,000 tonnes plus, this is a highly profitable operation. What is required is a commitment by these large multi national companies to put their considerable weight behind a demonstration unit that can be duplicated in whatever country they wish. While this will not solve the complete problem it will make a significant impact. Putting 10% renewable gas in the Irish gas supply and incentivising 200 new farm-focused biomethane producers makes total sense. https://lnkd.in/e4mYuH6z But beware, as poorly designed measures could see all the renewable gas come from abroad, with few if any successful new facilities springing up. We know this because it’s already happening in today’s tiny market here.  Imports are displacing Ireland’s existing three facilities, forcing them to seek buyers abroad in conditions that won’t tempt newcomers. And we know because it’s happening in Ireland’s renewable liquid fuel market which has always been dominated by imports. Worse, those imports are largely from fraud-prone sources, involving palm oil fraudulently labelled as used cooking oil in South East Asia, especially in HVO fuel. Clonbio Green Generation is one of Ireland’s existing three biomethane producers, we are the only one injecting into the Irish grid, we use a diverse range of agri-food waste raw materials and we trade into multiple markets in Ireland and abroad.  We produce and trade in other countries as well.  So believe us we know. The government and GNI can make the strategy work, by buying only Irish biomethane to cover the grid’s transmission energy and gas leakage needs (shrinkage gas) and by making the renewable heat obligation Irish biomethane only.  That’s what the Netherlands and a clutch of other EU countries do. GNI is key to it.  A recent study they made showed there to be over 150 project developers keen to make a start in the sector.  GNI and the government have yet to signal to both new and existing developers in Ireland that they have their backs, and that they’ll assure decent market conditions for them in the face of imports and fraud.
