The Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin T.D., and the Minister of State for Sport, Physical Education and the Gaeltacht, Thomas Byrne T.D., announced yesterday the second round of funding allocations under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF). Included within the projects that received funding is the construction of an FIH certified hockey pitch in Kinvara Hockey Club in Galway, a hockey pitch as part of the development of the Cavan Regional Sports Campus, and a hockey pitch as part of the development of the East Coast Hub, Gorey. All good things come to an end 🫡 A few weeks on from announcing my retirement from international hockey, I've had some time to reflect on what has been an incredible period in my life. Albeit, we as a team did not achieve our goal of getting back into the top flight of European hockey at the recent qualifiers on home soil. I look back on the last 14 years with immense pride and happiness. For every elite sportsperson, the journey is never straightforward nor easy, and it's full of ups and downs. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have been given the opportunity to represent my country from u16 right through to senior level. There has been some great moments, battles and victories that will live in the memory forever. What I'll cherish most are the memories and the friendships. So many different characters, personalities with a burning ambition to represent our country to the best of our abilities. I know I have said my thanks to my close support system but I can't express my gratitude and appreciation for everything they have done for me. To my wife, family, friends, clubs over the years, Hockey Ireland, Olympic Federation of Ireland, sponsors and of course my employer RSA Insurance Ireland, 123.ie and Intact. All of these amazing people allowed me to live my boyhood dream while balancing a career and everything else in between. Thank you doesn't seem enough 💚 Looking forward to supporting the boys from the other side of the fence. It's been an honour, a privilege and I am excited to see what the future holds ☘️

The HITV Early Adopters Season Pass - on sale starting this Friday 📺 🌏 Be a game-changer for Irish Hockey by becoming an a HITV ‘Season Pass’ Early Adopter. Early Adopters will be leading the visibility charge, directly contributing to the production of live and on-demand hockey games on HITV. Why become an Early Adopter? Hockey currently lags behind other sports when it comes to video content and ability to view in Ireland. The costs associated with live and on-demand video content production, as well as the infrastructure required to broadcast, creates a significant barrier to entry. HITV's new ‘Season Pass’ aims to overcome this, giving those who are invested in the sport of hockey a way to help us turn the dial. By contributing, early adopters will help raise the profile of our sport and put hockey in front of thousands more existing and prospective fans. For the past 12 months Hockey Ireland has been working to create a sustainable production and streaming model that addresses visibility while also ensuring the monies generated stay inside our sport and benefit its growth. Hockey clubs and schools have been granted over €3m to be used to upgrade existing facilities as well as constructing new ones. In a broader release today, the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin T.D., and the Minister of State for Sport, Physical Education and the Gaeltacht, Thomas Byrne T.D., announced 1,996 grants with a total value of €230m for new and improved sports facilities and equipment throughout the country under the Community Sport Facilities Fund, formerly the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme. This Hockey funding is instrumental in supporting the growth in hockey, particularly in the case of the 4 brand new facilities that are proposed to be built in Kinvara, Nenagh, Waterford, and Galway. EY Hockey League season 2024/2025 set to begin with Round 1 of Women’s Fixtures. The EY Hockey League, Ireland’s highest division of club hockey, returns this weekend with the Women’s competition beginning on Saturday, September 28. EY Ireland continues its support of the League, having been the primary sponsor of the Irish Hockey League since 2016 with the formation of the EY Hockey League and its subsequent expansion to feature a second tier in 2019. The competition has since become universally known as the EYHL, a measure of the intrinsic link between the sponsor and the competition and provides an elite domestic hockey competition on an equal basis for both male and female players. "Go Mommy, Go!" echoes through the fence at Park Avenue, Rosbrien, Newtownards, and Harlequin Park every Saturday afternoon. These “Mommies" have earned a combined 738 international caps, competed in the Olympics, won a World Cup silver medal, and claimed numerous national league and cup championships. But perhaps now most importantly, are the mothers to 13 young children. Yet playing at this level is not without its challenges, especially when you add motherhood into the equation.
