🤝 One ocean at a time #drivingchange A sincere thank you to the Valentia Transatlantic Cable Foundation for hosting the conference at the incredible birthplace of transatlantic communications, the #Eighthwonderoftheworld, and Tyndall National Institute and the Irish Photonic Integration Centre for opportunities to connect with the leaders in this community. I got to attend the first #Subsea #Cable Security and Resilience Symposium, and acquaint with the Island's Development CEO last month. The event was held at the Cable Station on #ValentiaIsland - the same spot where over 150 years ago the first successful #transatlantic #telegraph cable was laid between Valentia Island and Heart's Content in Newfoundland, Canada. This unique venue was chosen to support its bid for UNESCO World Heritage status. Here I got immersed in an extraordinary effort to develop the island to connect this haven with the rest of the world by uniting industry, government and academia under one hood. The curated list of talks shared strategies and action used underwater and how we learn from older technology is relevant to propel this vision.
