I’m exceptionally proud to work in the field of community sponsorship. So far in 2024, the Irish Refugee Council has supported the arrival of 32 people through the Community Sponsorship Ireland initiative. Community sponsorship sets a high standard for community-based integration. It welcomes our new neighbours into our communities and equips both newcomers and locals with the tools and support needed to help everyone thrive. Time and time again, this initiative reveals the strength and compassion of our communities. Time and time again, it highlights the richness and resilience our new neighbours bring to us. Time and time again, it shows that no act of support is ever too small. Please feel free to message me if you’d like to learn more about this inspiring programme!
Last week, three families that escaped persecution, arrived at Dublin airport to an emotional welcome from three Community Sponsorship Groups. Thanks to the hard work of these Groups, the families can now begin rebuilding their lives safely with community support! Our work, as a partner in the new National Support Organisation for Community Sponsorship along with our colleagues in Doras, Nasc and the Irish Red Cross, involves supporting these groups through training and advise so they are prepared to welcome people and help them settle in Ireland. Launched in 2018, Community Sponsorship Ireland (CSI) operates as an alternative integration and resettlement model and is supported and funded by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration, and Youth (DCEDIY). It empowers local communities to take direct action in welcoming and supporting families that receive status before coming to Ireland. The groups offer accommodation, orientation, emotional, and practical support. If you would like to more about Community Sponsorship, please see our website: https://lght.ly/lfhk9am
