SQHK Society for Quality Healthcare Kenya was an idea born at or better still from ISQUA 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. ISQua, we are glad to be part of this gathering. We hope to have more and more of us attending as the purse can allow. With the African community of practice, we can have the experience closer to home and enable more representation from the continent. Africa is ready for the conversation on the Science of quality improvement and Patient safety, human factors system thinking, Humanizing healthcare, addressing sustainability and climate change, co-production, and reflective practice; we sure are ready for this conversation and ready to co-create what works for us. Thanks for holding our hand, ISQua and World Health Organization on matters Quality of care and Patient safety. Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety Expert. MBChB, MMed, MPH, SQIL, FISQua,

A Special Moment: Handing Over "Quality Improvement for Healthcare" Exactly one month ago, I had the privilege of attending the 2024 International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) conference in Istanbul, Turkey, where I received a signed copy of Quality Improvement for Healthcare from Professor Peter Lachman. Back home I had the opportunity to deliver a personalized copy of the book to a colleague (a mentee of Peter Lachman) who is equally passionate about improving healthcare quality is truly special. Her excitement is palpable, and this resource will be instrumental as she continues her work in enhancing the quality of care in our region. Professor Lachman's ongoing support for healthcare professionals in LMICs provides a crucial boost for initiatives aimed at achieving high-quality, person-centered care. Previously a CEO at ISQua, we can't forget the fellowship programs where Stephen Taiye Balogun (MD, MPH, MSc, FISQua), Rhoda K., Wafa Allouche amongst others got great exposure on patient safety and quality improvement. We in Africa are happy that Carsten Engel, the current ISQua CEO , and Sodzi Sodzi-Tettey, an ISQUA board member, amongst others, are strengthening the Africa front by having a community of practice on while the fellowship programs continue being expanded. The book delves into the complexities of quality improvement, addressing why strategies and standards alone often fall short. It challenges the conventional focus on setting standards (Quality 1.0) and teaching improvement methodologies (Quality 2.0), urging healthcare leaders to move towards "Quality 3.0"—a model that embraces co-production of solutions between healthcare workers and patients. The aim is to empower frontline healthcare professionals with the knowledge, courage, and agency needed to enact meaningful change, while recognizing that context, implementation science, and local ownership are key to success. Together, we will build on the lessons from Quality Improvement for Healthcare and make strides towards safer, more effective, and equitable care. It was a privilege to speak today in Latin America at Soccas Chile about the importance of coproduction- bringing theory, practice and my personal story together. I have learned a lot from so many passionate people since I started my role with ISQua and today I was fortunate to be able to enhance my knowledge further. I never realised that some of my darkest days as a patient would lead to some of my proudest as an advocate for patient voice.
