  • 🌿 Create a Bog Garden & Boost Biodiversity! 🌿 Looking for a way to attract more wildlife to your garden? A bog garden is the perfect project! Bog gardens mimic wetlands, creating a lush, moisture-rich area that supports a wide range of species—from pollinators to amphibians. Here's how to get started: 1️⃣ Choose Your Spot Pick a low area that stays damp or use a container. Dig a shallow space and line it with pond liner, leaving small drainage holes for slow water flow. 2️⃣ Add Soil & Compost Use a mix of soil and compost, but avoid fertilisers—they can be too rich. Your bog should have nutrient-poor, slightly acidic soil. 3️⃣ Plant Bog-Loving Natives Plant moisture-loving, native plants like marsh marigold, purple loosestrife, and sedges. These provide food and shelter for insects and birds. 4️⃣ Keep it Moist Water regularly to maintain damp conditions. Rainwater is ideal—just top it up during dry spells. 5️⃣ Watch Wildlife Thrive! 🐸🦋 In no time, you’ll see frogs, dragonflies, butterflies, and birds flocking to your mini wetland! Creating a bog garden is a simple way to support biodiversity. Plus, it adds a unique, beautiful feature to your outdoor space! 🌱💧 #Louth #BogGarden #Biodiversity #WildlifeFriendly #EcoGarden #SustainableGardening #GardenTips

  • There was great excitement in the air when Louth Local Development in collaboration with Louth County Council officially opened a new Community House in Rathmullen in #Drogheda on Thursday 24th October 2024. This new Community Service is in response to a recommendation as set out in the Vivian Guerin report, the Drogheda Implementation Plan, to develop a community hub in the Rathmullen area. From a Community Development perspective Louth Local Development look forward to working positively within the Rathmullen area to identify and address the needs of the community with local residents by using a collaborative and interagency responsive and resourceful approach. In preparation for the service opening the #SICAP Community Development team have embraced a “boots on the ground” engagement strategy within the local Rathmullen Community across the last few months. The team has eagerly visited residents in the community to introduce the concept of the new Community House and to plan a schedule of events for the Autumn and Winter period whilst also working on a number of collective initiatives such as Southside Voices and Social Inclusion events. Local residents and several representatives from various statutory, community and voluntary agencies together with the local national and secondary schools including St. Paul’s Senior National School, Marymount National School, St John’s National School and Saint Oliver’s Post Community College enjoyed the electric atmosphere of the event. The Community House was officially opened by the Mayor of the Borough District Councillor Paddy Mc Quillan in the presence of Councillor Kevin Callan the Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council. Frank O’ Brien Chairperson of Louth Local Development gave powerful congratulatory speech, remarking ‘this is a really important day where we continue to develop and deliver services in the heart of the community. Using a bottom up approach the views and needs of the community were listened to and are now reflected in the programme of activities which will be carried out in the Community House’. #drogheda #SICAP #euinyourregion 🇨🇮🇪🇺 #community #countylouth #communityfirst #communityhouse #inclusion #droghedaimplementationboard #communityevent #communitydevelopment #lovedrogheda #LouthCoCo
