Shining a light on women who are paving the way🔥 Reflecting on International Women’s Day, a day where we take a moment to celebrate the women around the world, who inspire us and make an impact - the trailblazers; our colleagues, patients, partners, mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends. In Luminate, we are so proud to be surrounded by a team of incredible women who are paving the way in STEM, from Dr Barbara Oliveira, our Chief Clinical Officer and Co-Founder to Olivia Humphreys, R&D Graduate Engineer (and now Limerick Person of the Year 👏). Appreciation is a core value for us, and seeing women from our team, recognised beyond our office (and Slack channel) is really special 🫶 Last Friday, author Dearbhaile O'Hare, shared her powerful collection of poetry from ‘Things Went T*ts Up’ with refreshing honesty and pure wit, capturing the highs and lows of breast cancer but most importantly that there is hope and lots of life through and after diagnosis. Patients are at the heart of everything here, from our research through to our product design and development for Lily, Lilac, and Lotus. It’s wonderful for our team to have the opportunity to get real insight and perspective from minds like Dearbhaile, so we stay close to our mission and make cancer care more human. Keep paving the way, whether it’s in research and design, or in life and treatment. Every day, we will shine a light on your success and make it our mission to empower you through the work we do together 💜 #IWD2025

It’s that time of the year again where we not only review what has happened in terms of tech over the last 12 months but also consider what might be happening in 2025. With that in mind, technology and innovation editor Charlie Taylor has rounded up some of the top tech companies that are predicted to make waves this year. 2024 has definitely one of the most challenging yet rewarding years I personally and professionally put down. On January 8th of last year I lost my best friend, my Mom, to cancer. After a long battle with the disease, the comfort and care that was provided by Kerry Hospice Care made it was only only fitting for my family and I fundraise on their behalf in which we raised over 30,000 euro in the weeks after Moms passing. As tough as this time period was, when I returned to work the work I could carry out with Luminate Medical and Professor John Kelly within the University of Galway in furthering their technological advances in preventing hair loss in cancer patients over the course of the year seemed so fitting and I felt I was indirectly honouring my mother through my work. The work Luminate Medical carry out is second to none, their mission and work ethic is inspiring and the team behind the doors could not have been more welcoming and I take away so many learnings from them. Therefore, such a wonderful opportunity to work with them over the past year is something I will really hold great appreciation with for years to come as I advance through my career. In addition to this the support and learnings received from Professor John Kelly and other staff members during my time within the University of Galway has been eye-opening to say the least but has only furthered my drive to remain curious and to keep pushing no matter what the obstacle and I am so grateful for that. As sad as I am to leave Galway I know for sure it will always be my second home and the people there made that happen! So with a new year, I know new opportunities can arise, I am moving to Australia in the coming weeks and I do hope I can remain within the field of research and pharmacology. Therefore if anyone has any guidance, suggestions or tips, it would be so welcomed.
