Our vision is to work together to save lives and improve people's health through population screening.
About us
We deliver population screening programmes that help prevent, reduce the risk of, and assist the recognition of disease in Ireland. We run 4 national population screening programmes: 3 that screen for cancer, and 1 that screens for diabetic retinopathy. Our screening programmes are: BowelScreen - the national bowel screening programme BreastCheck - the national breast screening programme CervicalCheck - the national cervical screening programme Diabetic RetinaScreen - the national eye screening programme for people with diabetes Our programmes focus on looking for early signs of disease in healthy people, so that we can: - detect health issues early - help prevent disease - ensure that anyone who does develop the disease being screened for has the best chance of early, more effective treatment - reduce people’s risk of developing a disease or its complications - support people to make informed decisions about their health

Our Behavioural Scientist Dr Alice Le Bonniec explains how this helps us to develop interventions to increase awareness about our screening programmes and to help people to make a decision about screening. 👉 https://lnkd.in/e-UKeiPA #ChooseScreening #BehaviouralScience

It's #HealthLiteracyMonth. In our latest blog, our Senior Health Promotion Officer Lynn Swinburne explains how limited health literacy can be a barrier to screening, what we're doing to increase health literacy in screening, and how by addressing these needs we can enable more people to #choosescreening. "Increasing health literacy is more than educating people about screening - it is a vital public health strategy that can lead to improved health and wellbeing outcomes for the populations we serve." 👉 https://lnkd.in/ep5hab7t #healthliteracy #screening #NationalScreeningService
