The Physical Education and Sport Sciences (PESS) Department is a vibrant and rapidly growing department in the Faculty of Education and Health Sciences. The Department's strength lies in the expertise of its staff, the quality of its academic programmes and the applied nature and relevance of these programmes. PESS offers undergraduate and postgraduate academic taught programmes, as well as our extensive research activities including research centres and themes, collaborations and research publications and funded projects. The Head of the PESS department is Prof. Giles Warrington. PESS is very proud of its national and international reputation, which is reflected in the current international rankings. The MSc in Applied Sports Coaching from the Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences UL at the University of Limerick, in association with the Sport & Human Performance Research Centre, is pleased to host another Coaching Conversation. Join us April 8th 7pm for a fascinating talk on co-coaching: how to work most effectively as a group of coaches. Drawing upon his research - a six year investigation of a team of coaches in a professional rugby union club - and his experiences providing mentoring and consultancy support to professional coaches at club and international level in rugby union and soccer, Dr Edward Hall will explore the everyday strategies that underpin excellence in collaborative coaching. He will discuss how a team identity was constructed and how the Head Coach pursued co-operation, envisioned and advocated for collective missions, and sustained team ventures as they managed, negotiated, and coordinated their coaching together. He will discuss transferable insights and implications regarding co-coaches’ efforts to navigate their ongoing and, at times, problematic joint actions with one another.
