About us

The RCSI Institute of Global Surgery works to improve access to high-quality, essential surgical care for underserved populations. We support the training, retention, upskilling and career development of surgery, anaesthesia, nursing and obstetric caregivers, from health workers to specialists. Located in the School of Population Health at RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences, the IGS brings together and builds on RCSI’s fifteen years’ of experience in the field of global surgery. The staff of the IGS is a multidisciplinary team led by the O’Brien Chair of Global Surgery. The team includes surgeons; doctors; researchers; programme managers; educationalists; and communications specialists. We draw on experts in all aspects of health, medicine and surgery from across RCSI to support our work.
