At Roadie, we get that migrating to the new Backstage backend can be challenging, and we wanted to share our experience in the hope that it could make the process easier for others. In our latest guide, we dive deep into the migration journey, sharing context and details to help you avoid common pitfalls. Roadie engineer Miklós Kiss has packed the post with insights from our own experiences, offering tips on how to prepare your environment, how to integrate existing plugins using the legacy bridge, and navigating quirks of the new system. Our aim is to support the Backstage community by providing practical advice that makes the upgrade not just doable, but stress-free. 👉 Read the full guide in the comments

AI inside Roadie and Backstage 🎉 #llms and #generativeAI features fit naturally with internal developer portals, but executing them at scale takes time. We took a small step when we open sourced our AI Backstage plugin earlier this year. We've just taken another one by integrating that plugin into Roadie itself. The SRE team at Legend maintain the high quality of their software stack using the open source version of our Backstage Tech Insights plugin. This week Roadie Engineer Brian Fletcher implemented and merged a change to data source checking, then helped the SRE engineer in Legend write a rule to check that either "techdocs" annotation is present. A simple change that unlocks a bunch of value for Legend as well as other OSS users of Tech Insights. #backstage #sre #oss

🚀 Simplifying Backstage Catalog Updates with Roadie 🚀 Updating an entity in the Backstage catalog often means jumping through hoops—manually editing YAML files, waiting for PR reviews, and chasing down teams for approvals. This process becomes exponentially harder when scaling across hundreds or even thousands of repositories. 😩 Take something as simple as adding a PagerDuty plugin. A task that should take minutes can stretch into days or weeks. Logging into PagerDuty, finding the correct service ID, editing the YAML file, submitting a PR—it's a long, frustrating process. But what if there was a better way? 🤔 🔧 Introducing Roadie’s UI-based Tools! - Add annotations like PagerDuty with just a few clicks 🖱️ - Perform bulk updates across multiple entities quickly and efficiently - No more tedious PR reviews—make updates instantly through our intuitive UI 🔥 Behind the scenes, Roadie’s powerful Fragments API ensures that data stays accurate and up-to-date without the manual hassle. Why struggle with endless YAML file edits when you can streamline the process and focus on what really matters? Check out the full blog post for a deeper dive into how we’re making entity updates faster and easier than ever before! ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/enyw9gU9 #Backstage #DevOps #PlatformEngineering #PagerDuty #Automation #CatalogManagement #Roadie

We’ve just released Version 1 of the Okta Backstage Entity Provider. This release provides a straightforward default integration option, making it easier to connect Okta with Backstage. We’ve also ensured that the flexibility for customization remains, so you can adapt it to suit your specific needs. This has been a team effort, and I’m grateful to everyone who contributed. Big thanks to Clément Blaise for the initial work on this and Jim McVea for the assistance on useful integration configurations. If you’re working with Backstage and Okta, I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback on this update.
