MEDiate Project for the Chelmsford Science Festival: Infrastructure and Social Vulnerability to Floods in Essex 🌊 ⛈️Disasters cause significant losses to people, assets, and businesses. While direct losses are easier to estimate, the indirect impacts on access to primary services and the financial burden on marginalized groups are challenging to quantify. Join us for an insightful talk by Dr. Nadeeshani Wanigarathna and Dr. Mariantonietta Morga, where they will analyze the indirect impacts of a flood in an Essex locality. 📅 October 28, 2024 🕕18:00 - 19:00 GMT Info and registration here: https://lnkd.in/dQ43UVAy They will discuss the serviceability loss of the road network and its effect on accessing primary services, as well as the socio-economic characteristics that influence flood risk exposure. The Event is part of the Chelmsford Science Festival 2024, organized by Anglia Ruskin University, MEDiate Partner, in partnership with Chelmsford City Council and Chelmsford. https://lnkd.in/efCy2RCA Don't miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights into the indirect impacts of floods and how they affect our communities. 📩 Don't forget to subscribe to MEDiate's newsletter to stay informed https://lnkd.in/dskKtKnd #MEDiate #FloodRisk #InfrastructureResilience #ChelmsfordScienceFestival #ARU #DisasterManagement

🔐 As quantum computing becomes more of a reality, the need for quantum-safe cryptography is critical to ensuring the future of cybersecurity. Traditional public key algorithms will no longer be secure against quantum attacks, making it essential to transition to post-quantum cryptographic standards. #SecOPERA is at the forefront of this shift, focusing on integrating quantum-safe cryptography into open-source security solutions. We’re particularly exploring efficient defenses for Lattice-Based Cryptography (LBC), which is expected to be a key component of quantum-safe standards. By addressing vulnerabilities such as side channel attacks, while optimizing for performance in resource-constrained environments like IoT devices, we can help build a secure digital infrastructure for the future. 📉⚙️ #QuantumSafe #Cybersecurity #OpenSource #PostQuantumCryptography #SideChannelAttacks

  • October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month! In today's ever-changing threat landscape, cybersecurity certification of digital products boosts vendor's confidence, and leverages EU market competitiveness and customer trust. SLC and MAG are currently collaborating, in the context of the CUSTODES EU project, on developing security taxonomies which link cybersecurity objectives, with security functional requirements and security controls of ICT composite products. The CUSTODES taxonomies aim to consult stakeholders of various industry domains in preparing protection profiles for cyber-resilient ICT systems and services that meet certification needs. Stay tuned for further updates. Increase your cybersecurity certification knowledge on EUCC , Common Criteria, NIST 800-53 #CyberMonth2024 #CUSTODES #Cybersecurity #Certification #DigitalTrust

Last week, the IMPORTANT EU Project had the opportunity to engage with a large and diverse audience during its presence at #EuropeanResearchersNight in Cyprus, which included children, adolescents and adults of all ages. https://lnkd.in/dqRMhT6T The event was a huge success, with numerous paintings and heartfelt support messages collected for breast cancer patients. A big thank you to Eunomia Ltd Vasiliki Danilatou Christiana Markou for organizing the participation of the IMPORTANT project in the #EuropeanResearchersNight in Cyprus, helping us bring this important message to a wider audience. Special thanks to the medical students from the European University Cyprus Europa Donna Cyprus for their dedication in spreading awareness and providing information about the IMPORTANT trial. The #IMPORTANT project is a clinical trial focused on optimizing treatment for older patients with advanced breast cancer. This study compares tailored lower doses of CDK4/6 inhibitors with full doses to ensure the best outcomes for vulnerable and frail patients, aiming to improve both survival and quality of life. The IMPORTANT trial will provide critical evidence to help reshape clinical practice and enhance personalized care for older breast cancer patients. Through this research, we hope to make a significant impact on treatment strategies and overall patient well-being. #ImportantEUProject #HorizonEU #EUResearch #ResearchCollaboration #ClinicalTrials #BreastCancerResearch #Health #Oncology #ESMO2024 #GeriatricOncology #IMPORTANTtrial

  • Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are also known as the Internet of Things (IoT), Machine-to-Machine (M2M), and Smart X systems. They have three main components which are: Physical elements Computational elements Communication networks Computational elements monitor and control the physical elements and exchange data through the communication network. CPS applications can be found in many industries, including healthcare, military, agriculture, manufacturing and smart cities. Thanks to automation and real-time control systems, CPS's main advantage is improved efficiency. For example, in manufacturing, the continuous flow of data between sensors and control systems helps manufacturers identify bottlenecks, enhance production quality, and reduce downtime. However, three main factors have affected the security of CPS. First, CPS are complex. They incorporate state-of-the-art technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and IoT devices, which introduce new vulnerabilities. Second, CPS rely on interconnectivity, usually based on the Internet, which hugely expands the attack surface of these systems. Finally, the supply chain involved in the system increases the risk of an attack. Although several proposals have been made to secure each of the CPS components independently, when considering security solutions for CPS, we must not overlook the massive attack surface of these complex systems. It's crucial to consider the entire CPS attack surface when devising security strategies. Open source is crucial for Cyber-Physical Systems for several reasons. It enables flexibility and scalability in hardware selection and the opportunity to reuse and distribute code and knowledge. However, as mentioned in other posts, open source has its own security risks. #SecOPERA (Secure OPen source software and hardware Adaptable framework) aims to provide a one-stop hub for complex open source (software and hardware) solutions, the means to analyse, assess, secure (harden), and share open-source solutions. #SecOPERA
