    How to Shine ⭐ in your next Interview using the STAR Method Don't underestimate your achievements. Many professionals I work with often downplay their career accomplishments. Maybe it's due to imposter syndrome (which is incredibly common) or a fear of coming across as overconfident. Sometimes, it’s simply a lack of confidence in talking about their own work Whatever the reason, it’s important not to downplay your successes, especially in an interview. Be proud of what you've achieved, and speak confidently about it. Show the hiring manager why you're a good (and ideally the best) candidate. A powerful way to demonstrate your successes is by using the STAR Method: 1️⃣ Situation – describe the context 2️⃣ Task – explain what had to be done 3️⃣ Action – details the step you took – this is the key! 4️⃣ Result – share the outcomes.     Let’s Talk About Ageism in the Workplace We often celebrate diversity in the workplace, but are we truly inclusive of all ages? Recently, I’ve had numerous conversations with professionals in their mid-50s and upwards who are finding the job market increasingly difficult to navigate. Despite decades of experience, expertise and dedication, these job seekers face significant frustrations, including: ❌ Lack of Interview Opportunities: Many older professionals struggle to even secure an interview, despite having impressive CVs. Conscious and unconscious biases often result in them being overlooked in favour of younger candidates. 📉 Assumptions About Skills: There’s a misconception that this cohort aren’t up to date with technology or lack adaptability. The majority will bring a wealth of knowledge and a strong work ethic and are often eager to learn and grow. 💼 Overqualification Concerns: Employers may assume that seasoned professionals are “overqualified,” expecting them to demand higher salaries or be less flexible. This leads to missed opportunities for organisations to benefit from their vast experience. 👨👩👧👦 Misjudgements on Longevity: Ageism often carries the assumption that older employees are closer to retirement and, therefore, won’t stick around long-term. In truth, many are looking for meaningful roles to stay engaged for years as retirement age stretches out. Think of the immense value that older professionals bring—resilience, maturity, problem-solving skills, and leadership, to name just a few.     "Be curious, not judgmental"   This is one of my favourite quotes, recently revived by the Ted Lasso series.   It’s something to keep in mind when looking at a CV with frequent job changes. Often, when we receive such a CV, doubt creeps in—Will this person be a good fit for my team, or will they bring more challenges than solutions?   Before jumping to conclusions, let’s question the reasons behind the "job hopping." Was it due to:   👉 A company sale or merger? 👉 Loss of funding? 👉 Toxic workplace culture? (A common complaint!) 👉 Lack of work-life balance? 👉 A role turning out to be different from what was initially promised? (For example, no travel suddenly becoming 50%+ travel.) 👉 Changes in incentive or commission plans? 👉 The product not being market-ready? I could go on, but there are countless reasons people move on from companies. In today's job market, professionals are far more transient than past generations. So, the next time you come across a CV of a “job hopper”, take a moment to be curious, not judgmental.   Have a great day!
