🌍♻️ We're proud of our Key Account Manager, Niamh Clonan, presenting today at St. Vincent's University Hospital's Waste Management Awareness event! Niamh joined St. Vincent's University Hospital's Waste Management and Quality & Patient Safety Teams to highlight the importance of correct waste disposal. SVUH currently recycles an impressive 94% of their non-clinical waste, with the balance being converted into energy, helping reduce reliance on fossil fuels. 🌱 By improving waste management practices, SVUH staff are contributing to a greener future and cutting costs. 🌍💚

Waste Management Awareness at SVUH Today, our Waste Management and Quality & Patient Safety Teams hosted an informative stand at CentrePoint, aiming to educate our staff, patients and visitors on the correct disposal of waste streams at SVUH. We’re proud to share that 94% of our non-clinical waste is recycled, with the remainder being sent out to be incinerated to produce energy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels. We dispose of clinical waste in the most environmentally friendly manner. Our team also demonstrated the new Bio System sharp bins (30L and 7.5L), which can be reused over 600 times, significantly cutting costs and benefiting the environment. By disposing of hospital waste correctly, our staff can contribute to environmental sustainability and cost savings. Special thanks to Niamh Clonan Account Manager at Thorntons Recycling and Karen Evans, Account Manager at Stericycle Ireland for joining us today and offering valuable insights. Together, we can make a difference! ♻️ #Sustainability #WasteManagement #Healthcare #SVUH #EnvironmentalResponsibility

We had the pleasure of welcoming two incredible service users from Stewarts Hospital to Thorntons Recycling today! 🚛 They had a blast getting up close with our bin and skip lorries and even enjoyed an exciting drive in one of our bin trucks! The highlight of the visit was meeting our friendly mascot, who brought big smiles all around. We wrapped up the day with some fantastic goodies, and everyone left with lasting memories. We’re proud to make moments like these happen at Thorntons Recycling #ThorntonsInTheCommunity #Sustainability #StewartsHospital

Our amazing team – Karen, Jason, Ramona, Grace, and Kayleigh – are out at Dunnes Stores, Maynooth today, supporting Turas le Cheile, a charity that provides free bereavement counselling to people in North and South Kildare. They’re bag packing to raise funds for this vital service, and Thorntons Recycling is proud to make a donation to support their efforts. Turas le Cheile, founded by the president of Mental Health Europe, offers crucial support to those dealing with loss, and we’re honored to stand behind their mission. You can help too! This week, we had the privilege of visiting Presentation Girls School in Maynooth, where 350 students from 3rd to 6th class gathered to learn about recycling and food waste. Their enthusiasm and curiosity were inspiring as they asked questions about what happens to waste once it’s put in the recycling bin. It’s clear that education at a young age is key to fostering lifelong sustainable habits. This visit is part of our broader mission to raise awareness through our “Sort It!” campaign, which encourages households and businesses to properly separate their waste. With correct use of the three-bin system we can increase recycling rates. Thorntons Recycling remains committed to spreading the message of sustainability and helping Ireland meet its recycling targets. Through initiatives like school visits and partnerships with media outlets like RTE Junior, who recently filmed at our facility, we’re ensuring that everyone—from young students to businesses—can play a part in creating a greener future. The “Sort It!” campaign is just one step in this journey (visit our website to read more), but with continued education and action, we can make a lasting difference for our communities and environment.
