Tommie Campbell, branch manager for Tirlán CountryLife in Fethard, Co Tipperary, has made it to the last 5 in the nation-wide competition which celebrates and rewards the nation’s Retail Manager of the Year. Excitement is also building in Tirlán CountryLife in Athboy, Co. Meath, managed by Darren Kelly. The recently-refurbished and extended Athboy branch is among the Top 30 finalists in the National Retailer of the Year category in the competition. The annual awards celebrate the very best of Irish retail and having two stores in the running for top prizes is a huge honour and testament to the work that Tirlán CountryLife management and employees do every day, Ailish Byrne, Chief Agri Officer at Tirlán said. “Our Tirlán CountryLife branches each have their own in-store horticulturist to offer free information, advice and support to our growing customer base. Today, we come together to mark World Mental Health Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness and promoting mental well-being. At Tirlán 50 colleagues embark on the Tirlán Mountain Challenge in Connemara over the next two days, raising funds for our mental health charity partner, Aware. The event will involve two mountain challenges, climbing 1,800 meters over two days and covering a distance of 22km. On World Mental Health Day we would also like to celebrate the work of Aware, a charity dedicated to supporting mental health in Ireland. This collaboration is particularly fitting as we focus on raising awareness and providing support for mental health issues among our colleagues and the wider community. By participating in the Tirlán Mountain Challenge, we are helping to raise vital funds for Aware and highlight the importance of mental health. To donate 👉 https://lnkd.in/euWNabaw #hereforgood

Tirlán Co-op shareholders have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a proposal to change the rules of the Society to give more flexibility to manage its financial investments on behalf of Members. The result at today’s Special General Meeting (SGM) was in excess of 80% in favour of this proposal. Following today’s vote, the rules will change to allow the Board of the Co-op greater flexibility in managing its investment in Glanbia plc. Tirlán Co-op today holds a 28.9% shareholding in Glanbia plc, which is valued at more than €1.1 billion. The positive vote will facilitate the release of approximately €222 million of value to Members through a spin-out of 15 million Glanbia plc shares, which will take place as early as possible in 2025. Commenting after the result was announced, John Murphy, Chairperson of Tirlán Co-op, said: “This is a transformational outcome for our Co-op. Today’s positive vote will provide our ambitious Co-op with greater flexibility to better manage our financial investments. The core aim of today’s resolution is to drive farm family income, secure the future for this generation and, equally importantly, ensure we have a strong Co-op for the next generation.” For more 👉 https://bit.ly/4dyUGMV #hereforgood

We’re hoping there will be a ‘pot of gold’ at the end of the rainbow for our charity partner, Aware, during our Charity Hike on October 11th and 12th! 🌈 As part of Mental Health Week 2025, Tirlán employees will be lacing up their boots and hitting the Hills of Connemara to support mental health awareness. Walking and spending time outdoors is not only great for physical health but also vital for mental well-being. Together, we’re supporting Aware in their mission to provide support, education, and information around mental health. To ensure everything is perfect for the main event, some of our team took on a recce climb last weekend, with a rainbow appearing over Connemara National Park. 🏞️ Despite the challenge, we’re more excited than ever to take on the full hike! Let’s walk together for a healthier mind and support a great cause along the way. Help us to support Aware by donating here 👉 https://lnkd.in/euWNabaw

Meet the Somers Family, Representing Tirlán at the 2024 National Dairy Council & Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards!   Danny Somers and his son, Dan, farm in Barnacleagh, Arklow, Co. Wicklow, and are proud finalists in today's prestigious awards. Their herd is unique among finalists, featuring the Montbéliarde breed, known for its fertility, longevity, and top-quality milk for cheese-making.   The Somers family farm is an excellent example of sustainable dairy farming.   With 133 hectares, they balance tradition with innovation. The 230-strong herd produces 465kg of milk solids per cow annually, with an impressive focus on animal welfare, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.   🐄 Animal Welfare First: Dan and Danny ensure their cows are clean, comfortable, and healthy. From optimised cubicle sheds to well-maintained pathways, every detail is planned to protect their herd and calves.   🔦 Sustainability at Heart: The farm is fully committed to environmental care, from clover-rich grazing platforms to rainwater harvesting and sediment ponds. Their efforts go beyond the basics, with watercourses protected and tested monthly to safeguard local ecosystems.   🐝 Biodiversity Boost: Over 20,000 whitethorn saplings have been planted to establish a wildlife sanctuary, and their dedication to hedgerows and marshlands creates thriving habitats for local wildlife.   The Somers' philosophy is clear: better before bigger. Their aim is not to expand herd size but to enhance production through genetics and nutrition, ensuring the land is preserved for future generations, including Dan’s children, Daniel and Isla.   Congratulations to the Somers family!   #HereForGood #QualityMilkAwards #DairyFarming #Sustainability   https://lnkd.in/eXxn-5AR   Credit to National Dairy Council for the beautiful images

From Avonmore Professional in China to serving the growing sports nutrition sector, over 1,800 dairy suppliers had the opportunity to follow their milk from their farm gate and out into the global marketplace. Our teams from across the world came together as we held Open Days at our integrated processing facility in Ballyragget, Co Kilkenny to provide our farmers with insights into the key markets where their product is sold and enjoyed. The Ballyragget facility is one of Tirlán's network of high-tech processing sites, with over 1.2 billion litres of milk delivered by our farmers and processed by over 390 employees. The facility has evolved over decades to process and produce over 230 thousand tonnes of finished product, 250 million litres of cream and 1.3 billion litres of whey. From high-end bakeries in China to whey now in over 80 countries, our mini 'Expo' experience provided a flavour of the constant innovation at work in our dairy and grains portfolio. Tirlán's Chairperson John Murphy said: "As a 100% farmer-owned co-op, it was an excellent opportunity for our farmers and owners to get to see the products that go to over 95 countries across the globe. Many of those attending told how they enjoyed meeting our teams from China, Vietnam, South East Asia and other locations. In addition to learning about the processing at the facilities and the constant focus on innovation in our R&D centre, it was the people that really resonated for them." #HereForGood #IrishFood #CollaborateForSuccess

Tirlán joined organisations from across the Irish agri-food sector in highlighting Ireland’s collaborative approach to enhancing water quality and supporting the retention of the Nitrates Derogation during the EU Commission’s visit to Ireland. The importance of maintaining Ireland’s current Nitrates Derogation for both the sector and the wider economy was highlighted during the meetings with European Commission officials. Speaking after a roundtable meeting, Tirlán’s CEO Seán Molloy said: “Tirlán and our farm families are fully engaged and firmly behind Ireland’s collaborative approach to improving water quality through Ireland’s Farming for Water EIP.” At a visit on the family farm of Tirlán suppliers Cheryl and Alan Poole, near Gorey, Co Wexford, a practical focus on maintaining and enhancing water quality was highlighted as part of Tirlán’s Farming for Water: River Slaney Project aimed at improving the catchment running through Ireland’s south-east. The programme is part of Ireland’s overall Farming for Water EIP and aligned with the Teagasc ‘Better Farming for Water’ programme to deliver and support a science-based knowledge transfer and best practice approach. Tirlán’s Chairperson John Murphy emphasised that the good work seen on the Poole’s family farm in County Wexford was reflective of work underway on farms right across the country. “We’d like to thank the EU Commission team for their time and commitment to visiting to witness first-hand the large body of work underway on Irish farms.” #FarmingForWater #Sustainability Read more here: https://lnkd.in/exNheq3N Read the statement of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Charlie McConalogue Martin Heydon Pippa Hackett here https://lnkd.in/eiwZZgcB Dairy Industry Ireland Meat Industry Ireland Irish Co-operative Organisation Society Irish Farmers Association Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association - ICMSA Bobby Miller IGGA Lakeland Dairies Dairygold Co-Operative Society Ltd Carbery Group
