UCC Creative Writing student selected for prestigious young writer programme at Cúirt Congratulations to Angelia D'Souza, MA in Creative Writing student, who has been selected as one of five Young Writer Delegates for the 2025 Cúirt International Festival of Literature. The Irish Writers Centre and Cúirt International Festival of Literature programme offers emerging writers the opportunity to immerse themselves in one of Ireland’s leading literary festivals. "It’s an honour to be selected as a Young Writer Delegate, since I’ll have the chance to not only represent UCC, but other young South Asian women like me who have a passion for writing. I’m thrilled to experience the festival and attend poetry readings and workshops, but I’m most looking forward to the showcase where I’ll be able to read some of my work with the other delegates," Angelia said. From California, Angelia moved to Ireland to study Creative Writing at UCC. Now, on the MSc in Applied Coastal and Marine Management, Xiana diving into management and policy-making, developing her thesis on offshore windfarms, and getting real-world experience aboard the Tom Crean and at MaREI, the world-leading SFI Research Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine. For over 50 years, UCC has been a leader in social work education and practice. On World Social Work Day, UCC and Cork Education and Training Board celebrated the Bachelor of Social Work Tertiary Route - a major milestone in social work education. The Bachelor of Social Work Tertiary Route ensures that aspiring social workers have the opportunity to to make a meaningful impact in society. "On this World Social Work Day, we not only celebrate this academic pathway but also reaffirm our commitment to the values of social work - sustainability, human rights, social justice, and community empowerment," UCC President Professor John O'Halloran said.
