International Overdose Awareness Day is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died from overdose, and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind. It is a day dedicated for 'Time to Remember. Time to Act'. Figures that were published on drug-related deaths by the Health Research Board show that there were 409 poisoning deaths in 2020. Drug overdose deaths are preventable, each of the 409 numbers are people who have lost their lives. The sub-theme for this year is, “Together We Can” highlighting the power of our community when we all stand together! Overdose affects people and communities in many ways and today provides us with an opportunity to raise awareness about drug overdose and related issues with the aim of reducing the stigma associated with drug-related death, acknowledge the grief experienced by families and communities when they lose a loved one to overdose and ways we can support to reduce overdoses. Pharmacists play a key role in supporting patients within the community by educating and advising on the safe use of medications. Meet Gillian Keogh, ARC Business Development Analyst at United Drug Wholesale. Gillian has worked at United Drug for over 1 year. ARC is a next generation business management tool to assist pharmacies with claims and potential lost revenue. Gillian plays a pivotal role in supporting pharmacists reduce time and costs with the benefit of the ARC claims tool. Gillian provides ARC customers with training and support, from the installation of their ARC software to the data analysis and review of their pharmacy claims. “My role benefits pharmacists and their staff by reducing their workload related to the time spent on claims management.
