Everything should be just right for now." - Said our General Partner Lior Handelsman in a recent interview on the Founders’ Marketing Compass podcast with Etgar Shpivak, where he shared some hard-earned lessons from scaling a company to a $20B valuation: ✅ Founders must drive early marketing. Hiring a full-time marketing leader too soon rarely works. Instead, start with advisors or fractional CMOs, but do the trial-and-error yourself first. ✅ Scaling isn’t about marketing ‘big’—it’s about marketing ‘repeatable.’ The best metric for marketing success isn’t perfection—it’s repeatability. Can you close similar deals with similar value propositions across similar customers? If not, it’s too early to scale. A strong marketing foundation isn’t built on one-off wins but on a process that works over and over again. ✅ The startup journey is never smooth sailing—so stop waiting for it to be. Many founders believe they’ll eventually reach a point where everything runs effortlessly. That moment never comes. As Lior puts it: "15 years in a company, starting with $12M in sales and finishing with $3B in sales—I never had a single day of smooth sailing."
