How Vulnerability Can Set Your Company Apart? Listening to Alison Taylor's insightful conversation on the Conversations on Climate podcast, we were struck by her emphasis on authenticity and ethics in the world of ESG. She shares numerous examples of companies that have been more vulnerable, admitted to mistakes, and openly discussed their goals and limitations. Contrary to popular belief, these companies have not suffered as a result, but instead have stood out in an environment exhausted by empty stories. Taylor highlights the need to reconnect ESG to ethics, particularly in the face of polarisation. The "corporation as a self-interested profit maximising Black Box" metaphor is no longer sufficient, and we must recognise organisations as open systems within larger environmental, social, and political contexts. The expectations of businesses today are higher than ever, and authenticity, and ethical decision-making are essential. Let's strive for more authentic conversations about the role of business in society and work towards a more compassionate and interactive relationship with younger generations. By doing so, we can make better decisions about how we run our corporations and contribute to a more sustainable future. How We Can Save the World from the People Who Are Screwing It Up? Rethinking Profit - The Rise of Purpose-Driven Business Models Today's consumer electronics and fashion often embrace built-in obsolescence, brands like Fairphone and Patagonia are boldly going against the grain. Instead of pushing for continuous product replacement, these companies prioritise repairability, sustainability, and long-term customer value. Fairphone, for example, designs mobile phones with modular parts that can be easily replaced or repaired. This approach means fewer discarded devices and yes, it may impact profit because customers won’t need to buy a new phone as often. But Fairphone is reshaping what it means to be a tech company in the process. Similarly, Patagonia has set a high bar for the outdoor industry, offering free repairs on its products to extend their lifespan rather than encouraging customers to replace worn-out items. This commitment to sustainability isn’t just a branding exercise it’s a paradigm shift toward ethical business practices. These “activist” business models challenge the status quo, proving that prioritising purpose over profit can disrupt industries and redefine success. If you're curious about how businesses can embrace this approach and thrive, tune into this episode of the Conversations on Climate podcast to hear more about this movement and its growing impact. 👉 Find out more and watch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/eqdyGdDQ #sustainablebusiness #purposedriven #climateaction #leadership

Today it's more important than ever to prioritise resilience in our infrastructure and systems. This powerful conversation highlights the critical need for resilient infrastructure that can withstand the challenges of climate catastrophes, conflicts, and other disruptions. When disaster strikes, we need to be able to bounce back quickly, with access to the basic necessities like energy, water, sanitation, and food. Traditional infrastructure can take weeks, months, or even years to restore, leaving communities vulnerable and in crisis. But with resilient infrastructure in place, we can ensure that these essential services are available within hours of a disruption. As business leaders, we have a responsibility to invest in resilient infrastructure and prioritise sustainability in our operations. The African philosophy of Ubuntu: "I am because you are" Watch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/eTmqFD7u #conversationsonclimate #climateleadership #sustainability
🌱 The Climate 3-4-1: "Leadership, Wisdom and the Power of Respect" 🗣️ "If a leader marches and leaves his people behind, he's not a leader, he's a man walking alone. So you have to make sure that as you march, you're marching with your people." 🎙️ Conversations on Climate Season 3, Episode 18: Featuring His Royal Majesty Notse Nii Nortey Owuo IV, King of the Osu people of Ghana THREE words to describe His Royal Majesty: 👑 Leader 🌍 Glocal 🛡️ Custodian FOUR things I learned: 1️⃣ Respect is key to all core relationships. The King emphasizes that mutual respect is essential for solving problems, whether in politics or everyday life. Without respect, collaboration becomes difficult: "It feels like one side is dictating, and the other feels disregarded." 2️⃣ The power of insider knowledge. As a lawyer and banker, the King knows how institutions think. "When negotiating with financial institutions, you understand their perspective because you helped craft it. But you also speak as the son of the land, putting your experience in service of your people." 3️⃣ AI and Indigenous Knowledge. The wisdom of indigenous communities is being lost, but it holds tremendous value. His Majesty believes AI should be trained on indigenous knowledge to preserve these practices, which helped people live in harmony with nature for millennia. 4️⃣ Ubuntu: I am because you are. The African philosophy of Ubuntu, "I am because you are," teaches us the importance of interdependence. If we build systems rooted in this principle and respect for one another, many paths to success can work. ONE question for you: The King advises that the most important thing a leader can do is listen. "I always listen first, because by the time I speak, I have the benefit of the wisdom of many."
