Nintendo: Shuntaro Furukawa Addresses Longer Game Development Cycles Due to Hardware Advancements
Nintendo plans to make the necessary investments.
Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of Nintendo, recently discussed how game development cycles are taking longer due to hardware advancements.
During the company's Q&A session, Furukawa informed investors that modern game development now demands more time and resources, affecting development schedules. He highlighted that development has become "more prolonged, more complex, and more advanced." To address these challenges, Furukawa emphasised the need for Nintendo to consistently expand its "development resources" and make "necessary investments."
Elsewhere in the Q&A, executive officer Takashi Tezuka reflected on the completion of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, noting it had been 11 years since the previous game in the series. However, he pointed out that the team remained productive during this time, developing new titles such as the Super Mario Maker series and the 3D Mario series. He shared more information about future releases, explaining that while some upcoming titles will require extended development time, others will be completed more quickly. He encouraged fans to look forward to these new projects.
Additionally, there are rumours about Palworld being released on the Nintendo Switch. However, there are notable technical challenges involved in this process. Takuro Mizobe, CEO of Pocketpair, told Game File that the company is currently having internal discussions about expanding the game to new platforms but has no updates to share at this time.
