The 18startup Fellowship Cohort 5 has just wrapped up an unforgettable bootcamp in Goa, bringing together some of the most passionate entrepreneurs from across the country. These founders embarked on an immersive journey, pushing their limits and expanding their horizons. Applicants from all corners of India, each with unique mindsets, ideas, and skills, went through a rigorous selection process. Finally, entrepreneurs from over 10 cities came together to accelerate their startup journeys with us. In the 4 intense days, participants dived deep into hands-on activities, expert-led master sessions, and powerful frameworks designed to sharpen their execution strategies. But the magic didn’t stop there, connections flourished as they networked with peers from diverse backgrounds, exchanging insights and forming potential collaborations. It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since we started 18startup community. Funny how all good things seem to happen on the 19th, I take it as a sign:) The journey began with my cofounder and friend, Zeeshan. We had already worked on 2 startups together (TruScript , Echo - Day jobs), and though we generated some revenue and traction, we couldn’t quite turn them into success stories. The problem wasn’t just the usual startup challenges, we realized we were missing some crucial guidance. Without mentors to show us the way, we often found ourselves stuck, unsure of what steps to take next. Then came a turning point, build3 Impact Accelerator. It was here that everything started to shift. The program gave us a deeper understanding of the fundamental skills needed to run a startup. More importantly, it connected us with Prakash. From the moment we met, there was this spark, our energies aligned, and soon enough, the idea to build something meaningful together began to take shape. As we reflected on our own struggles—feeling stuck, and lacking direction, we realized that many first-time founders were facing the same issue. It wasn’t just us, new entrepreneurs struggled with not knowing what to do next. The root of it, we discovered was the absence of fundamental startup skills. And that was the problem we set out to solve. On October 19th, 2023, Zeeshan, Prakash, and I decided to launch 18startup community. It started with just the 3 of us, but today, it’s grown into a vibrant community of 5,000 entrepreneurs from all over India. Along the way, we’ve faced plenty of challenges, but the support from our community has made all the difference. So far, we’ve successfully completed 4 cohorts and impacted 209 startup founders. And our 5th cohort kicks off on October 23rd, and the excitement is stronger than ever. This is only the beginning of our adventure. Guess what? Mrityunjay Prabhakar & Miraj Parekh have made it to Cohort 5 of the 18startup fellowship with a 100% scholarship! After conquering 3 challenging stages of the ideathon, they've emerged as the most passionate and enthusiastic entrepreneurs. It all started with a quiz only 70% of the participants made it to round 2. Then, in round 2, they had just 25 minutes to come up with a solution to the problem. From there, only 5 people were shortlisted for the final stage, where they had to pitch their proposed solutions in a detailed 1-pager. The panel, consisting of Vivek Rajalingam, (Founder of Ziti), Chatan (Tech lead at Ziti) and Prakash Balasubramanian Iyer (CEO of 18startup community), gave everyone an equal scoring opportunity. I wanted to give a special shout-out to Nikhileshwar Vishwanathappa and Meenaakshi Saravanan. While they may not have emerged as the winners, I truly appreciate the excellent and insightful ideas they brought to the table.
