Sharp insights from our very own Divya Gupta on the patterns #entrepreneurs often exhibit while pitching to investors.
🕵️♂️ I love recognising patterns! Here are some brutal patterns about startup pitches most people won’t tell you (They’re not gospel, but they’re hard to ignore): 1️⃣ Founders who spend too much time on ‘WHAT is their business’ instead of ‘WHY they’ll win’ 👉 Often have over-complicated models and unclear strategies. 2️⃣ Founders who delegate financial questions to their “numbers person” 👉 Tend to have high burn rates and poor capital efficiency. 3️⃣ Founders with strong conviction 👉 Usually aren’t afraid to push back on investor suggestions (which can be both a strength and a challenge). 4️⃣ Founders who are amazing storytellers 👉 Often have long cap tables filled with seed/angel investors (such founders should watch out for over-dilution in early days). 5️⃣ Founders who avoid discussing risks or weaknesses 👉 Usually have no clear mitigation plan or are living in denial. 6️⃣ Founders who pivot frequently without proving traction 👉 Tend to struggle with execution and focus. 7️⃣ Founders who rely heavily on buzzwords (AI, blockchain, or even tech) which they can’t explain clearly 👉 Often lack a unique moat or differentiation. 📝 Correlation ≠ causation. But if you’re pitching, these patterns are worth reflecting on. Agree? Disagree? Let’s discuss. #StartupTruths #FounderInsights #InvestorMindset

Concerns around rising climate change and the growing need for sustainable solutions have led to the sector garnering investor interest and funding. Financing is starting to flow as more and more funds are mushrooming to transform the economy and protect the environment. However, identifying these opportunities is key to deploying capital responsibly and generating strong returns. Private capital, unlike government spending and philanthropic grants, can only be deployed where there are clear, investible opportunities to generate returns. Isolating these opportunities is critical to unlocking a wave of green investments in emerging markets. How are investors tapping opportunities in low-carbon technologies across energy, mobility, and agriculture sectors? How can green transition transform South and SE Asian economies? -Nakul Zaveri, Partner and Co-Head of Climate Investment Strategy, LeapFrog Investments -Winston Mandrawa, CFA, Managing Director & Head of ASEAN, Affirma Capital -Lisa Genasci, Managing Director, Sustainable Finance, ADM Capital -Abhishek Mittal, Partner, Aavishkaar Capital -Michelle Teo, Senior Journalist & Managing Editor, DealStreetAsia (Moderator) #IndonesiaPEVCSummit2025 #Conference #LeapFrogInvestments #AffirmaCapital #ADMCapital #AavishkaarCapital
