Anjal Prakash, Clinical Associate Professor (Research) & Research Director, Bharti Institute of Public Policy, Indian School of Business authored a research article 'How Gender-Sensitive Are Environmental Institutions, Climate Adaptation, and Mitigation Actions? A Narrative from the Global South', published in the Annual Review of Environment and Resources. The article examines the complex relationship between gender and climate change, focussing on regions in the Global South, including Africa, South Asia, and Latin America. Prof. Prakash highlights the uneven progress in this critical area, where many policies still fail to address the specific risks women face during natural disasters or in accessing essential resources like water and fuel. Gender-sensitive approaches are essential for meaningful and effective climate adaptation and mitigation. Key Takeaways: 1️⃣ Prioritise gender-responsive methods in climate policies. 2️⃣ Challenge biases and traditional gender roles through targeted advocacy and education. 3️⃣ Embrace intersectionality to address the compounded effects of social inequalities. Achieving climate justice requires dismantling gender barriers and ensuring policies go beyond merely acknowledging disparities—they must actively close the gaps. It's time for institutions to move past tokenism and foster genuine inclusion in climate action. Read full article at https://lnkd.in/gKyyEJDt and share your thoughts below. #KnowledgeProduct| The Initiative on the Forest Economy (IoFE) at Bharti Institute of Public Policy (BIPP), Indian School of Business (ISB) has successfully delivered Community Forest Rights (CFR) claim filing kits to Forest Rights Committees (FRCs) across Jharkhand. This effort empowers local communities and accelerates the scaling of community forest tenure under the Forest Rights Act. #CFRKitDelivery | Empowering Communities to Secure Forest Rights The Initiative on the Forest Economy (IoFE) has successfully completed the delivery of kits for Community Forest Rights (CFR) claim filing to Forest Rights Committees (FRCs) across Jharkhand. This effort covered eight blocks during the pilot phase and 11 blocks in the first phase of delivery. This initiative is crucial for empowering local communities and facilitating the claim filing process to scale up community forest tenure under the Forest Rights Act. The kits included essential resources such as CFR claim forms, village maps, and instructional materials, ensuring that every FRC is equipped to successfully navigate the claim filing process. The CFR kits provided to FRCs are comprehensive, containing: -CFR claim forms (Type B and C) -Village maps unique to each village -Record of Rights (RoR) for land claims -Sahayika (Guide) for navigating the claim process -Registers, stamps, and stamp pads for FRC officials -Stage-wise video tutorials and access to helplines for support The delivery of the CFR kits is essential to streamline the claim process and ensure that every Forest Rights Committee (FRC) has the necessary resources to file claims efficiently. IoFE piloted innovative delivery models that moved beyond traditional centralized systems, ensuring direct-to-village distribution. The deliveries were facilitated through a mix of vehicle-based deliveries and a delivery boy system, with post-delivery support provided via helpdesk and helpline setups at the block level. This approach ensured that FRCs not only received their kits on time but also had access to ongoing support. The success of this initiative underscored the power of collaboration between community leaders, civil society, and institutional partners. In total, we covered approximately 670 villages in the pilot and first phase of delivery—across 19 blocks in the districts of East Singhbhum, Simdega, Latehar, and Gumla. In a blog 'The Power of Whistleblowing: Safeguarding Transparency and Accountability', Kalyani Kodeti, Post Graduate Programme (PGP) student at the Indian School of Business discusses the critical role of whistleblowing in promoting accountability and transparency in corporate and government settings. She explores key legal frameworks worldwide, such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in the US and the Public Interest Disclosure Act (PIDA) in the UK, which offer valuable lessons for developing countries like India, where significant challenges still exist. "India's Whistle Blowers Protection Act, 2014, aims to protect whistleblowers, but issues like inadequate anonymity and the lack of protections for private-sector employees persist," writes Kalyani. Her blog emphasises the importance of learning from global best practices and leveraging technological solutions to improve whistleblowing frameworks in India. Karnataka, one of India’s top-performing states economically, still suffers from stark infrastructural inequalities. A recent research paper 'An Inter-district Analysis of Infrastructural Disparities in Karnataka ' by Nimisha Jain, Research Manager, Bharti Institute of Public Policy, Indian School of Business and her co-author, reveals just how significant the gaps are across 30 districts, highlighting a North-South divide that reflects broader developmental challenges. Key Insights: Financial Gaps are the Widest Correlation with Economic Growth Regional Imbalances Why This Matters? Infrastructure isn't just about roads or buildings. It’s an input for economic growth and social development. Addressing these disparities can lead to more equitable growth, foster a skilled workforce, and create better opportunities across all regions. What Needs to be Done? The study suggests strategic investments in underdeveloped districts, especially in North Karnataka. Public-private partnerships can play a crucial role in accelerating this transformation.
