The Rural Technology Action Group (#RuTAG) of Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India and Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM) through the Rural Smart Village Center (#RSVC), Tappal, successfully conducted a two-day skill training program on Tulsi Mala making, benefiting 100 self-help group (SHG) women. A key highlight of the training was the introduction of the Tulsi Mala Machine, which significantly reduces drudgery for artisians, enhances productivity, and ensures effeciency. With this machine, a standard mala can be crafted in just 20 minutes, compared to the 35-40 minutes required for manual production. Following the training, #RSVC will facilitate access to these these machines, enabling women to produce and sell Tulsi Malas both locally and in larger market of Mathura and Vrindavan just 60 km away. We’ll explore opportunity for online selling also. This initiative opens doors for wider market opportunities, fostering economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods for rural women. Thank you Rajneesh Kumar and Nishant Gupta for visiting our site and for your continued belief in TRI’s mission to Transform Rural India. Your support goes beyond just investment, it’s the consistent mentorship, guidance, and encouragement that truly strengthens our efforts on the ground. We’re grateful for this partnership that brings together shared vision and action. Excited for what we’ll continue to build together!
Today, I was privileged to visit the Aligarh FPC in #UttarPradesh, engaging with inspiring women-led Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), grassroots Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and agri-entrepreneurs. From the institutional architecture of Jeevan Jyoti CLF to the impactful initiatives at Mahila Shakti Kendra, every interaction reinforced the power of collective action in rural India. The Women FPO Office, organic biofertilizer unit, and I-Milk collection center showcased how innovative models transform livelihoods. E-commerce plays a crucial role in connecting these farming communities to broader markets, enabling them to scale their businesses, access fair pricing, and build sustainable livelihoods. At Flipkart, we are committed to strengthening these linkages, ensuring that rural entrepreneurs and farmers benefit from the digital revolution. Additionally, through tne partnership with the Walmart Foundation, we are investing in capacity-building initiatives that empower FPOs, enhance agri-infrastructure, and improve income opportunities for smallholder farmers. A big thank you to all the farmers, SHG members, and FPO leaders and our partner Transform Rural India for their unwavering dedication. The future of India’s rural economy is bright, and together, we can accelerate its growth! #Flipkart #EcommerceForAll #FarmersFirst #RuralEmpowerment #WalmartFoundation #WomenEntrepreneurs Kalyan Krishnamurthy Ravi Iyer Keshav Dhakad Seema Nair Dr. Tafheem Siddiqui Nishant Gupta Sarah Gideon Transform Rural India Persis Khambatta John Lenhart Syed Mansoor Abbas Naqvi Vinamra Dhakad CM Office, GoUP Government of Uttar Pradesh Asim Arun National Rural Livelihoods Mission Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM)

Rural transformation isn’t just about policies, it’s about people taking charge. From empty Gram Sabhas to 85% community participation, the Localization Model in Madhya Pradesh proves that when rural communities lead their own development change is not only possible but lasting. But what role do NGOs play in this shift? With digital governance reshaping rural India, NGOs must transition from implementers to enablers who strengthen grassroots leadership, foster participatory governance, and use design thinking to create solutions that truly work. Neeraj Ahuja, Associate Director, TRI, explores how this synergy of grassroots activism and design-driven innovation is reshaping rural India.
