Canfem was at the 3rd Indian Cancer Congress 2023, where we had the honor of presenting our groundbreaking work amidst a gathering of over 4000 delegates. The event hosted an impressive array of professionals, including doctors, industry veterans, healthcare experts, and public health advocates from India and beyond. October, the #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth is a time to celebrate resilience, hope, and support for survivors🎀 Hence, we in collaboration with Canfem, have just launched our #Mastectomy Bras and Handmade Breast Prosthesis. These bras are crafted from soft cotton hosiery fabric with pockets on the inner side of the cups to place the prosthesis. Clovia along with the Canfem team stands with survivors and warriors & brings the Mastectomy bras & Prosthesis at nominal costs, we only recover our costs and make no profits from these. A Heartwarming Sunday in Ambojwadi, Mumbai As I walked through the winding lanes of Ambojwadi, I had the privilege of meeting Mizga Madam (thanks to Barefoot Edu Foundation), a remarkable community leader and the Principal of a school nestled in the slums of Malad West. She doesn't just educate; she empowers. In a world of towering high-rises, there's this realm where girls aren't "allowed" to cross a lane to get education. It was there that I was invited to speak about something many were too afraid to utter: "Breast Cancer." Their initial responses were heart-wrenching: Cancer meant death, a family's demise, something that could spread by touch. But from those initial misconceptions, a transformation began. We delved into what cancer truly is, its early symptoms, prevention, and how to support those affected. The session culminated with a lesson on breast self-examination. Initially hesitant, the women found encouragement from the teenagers in the room. They touched the prosthetic breasts and learned this vital skill. Curiosity was tangible, and a deluge of questions poured in after the session. These women were already community leaders, and their commitment was contagious. Each one pledged to educate 100 others. In a matter of hours, our impact rippled from 50 to 5,000, all with a common goal: spreading awareness about breast cancer. Canfem reaches from Delhi ➡ Gujarat ➡ Kenya Recently, I received a message from a Kenyan number. It was Maguta, a patient from Kenya, whom I met at Apollo, Gandhinagar. She confirmed that she has received her parcel sent from Canfem. She also shared how the prosthesis and bras are so comfortable, she feels so confident about herself and feels like she never had a mastectomy". Team Canfem visited Gujarat in July last week to present our work at the Annual Conference of Breast Surgeons in India. After gaining interest from 200+ doctors across the country, immediate meetings were set up. On my last day of the tour, I was about to book my cab for the airport, when I received a call from Dr Shubhra. I had met her at Apollo, Gandhinagar. She had a patient from Kenya in dire need of a prosthesis. She asked if we can do something for her. My hotel was just across Apollo, and in no time I visited her. I met Elizabeth and Maguta. Young women entrepreneurs from Kenya getting treated for breast cancer in India. Both had undergone mastectomy. In no time, I showed them the prosthesis and the bras. They got so happy seeing them. Luckily, I was carrying the size that fit Maguta perfectly. I promised Elizabeth to deliver her size within a week. After using Canfem's products for almost half a month, in their words, they feel like a "woman" again. Cancer is a big problem. Post-cancer care is an even bigger problem, often hitting the patient beyond medical needs. Canfem has taken the pledge to dignify the journey, with and beyond cancer. With the support of our fantastic mentor, Neeraj Lal sir, Canfem will soon be present offline in Gujarat. We can't wait to expand our presence. One step closer to impact a million cancer warriors.
