Not all Instagram and Pinterest saves translate to reality on your wedding day. That’s because the images we see online are heavily filtered, often leading brides to set unrealistic expectations for their bridal look. It’s okay to use references, but if your skin type and face shape differ from your inspiration, you won’t achieve the same result. To help, we spoke to celebrity makeup artist Namrata Soni. Swipe to see the most common bridal beauty mistakes brides make, and what you can do to fix them. For more, stay tuned to Vogue Wedding Atelier, India’s most luxurious bridal showcase and the ultimate destination for curating your dream celebration. Presenting the double-cover of AD’s January-February 2025 issue: Photo Lies by Dayanita Singh. “She holds up one of her photographs for me to see. It’s a beautiful black-and-white composition. At a glance, it looks like a room in Japan, though the flooring doesn’t seem congruent, nor do some of the finer details. She then gently peels away a layer from the image, as though she is opening up a pop-up book. In an instant, the illusion of the original is shattered. What had seemed at first a single photo is revealed to be a composite, created by putting sections of two different photographs that had been cut straight, or in a Z shape, then put on top of one another to create a mysterious third. The result is an entirely new entity. Her latest series of works—Photo Lies by Dayanita Singh—features montage of numerous architectural photos, including buildings designed by the late BV Doshi, Bijoy Jain, Álvaro Siza, Le Corbusier, Gurjit Matharoo, and Martand Khosla. With playful precision, she creates what she calls “placeless places”—all without any digital manufacturing. “There is no enlargement of the images, no trickery with any software, in these montages,” she says. “My aim is to simply create something more than the material I started with.” Read more in AD’s Jan-Feb 2025 issue!
