Last week Mr. Ewout de Wit, the Consul General of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Bangalore, along with colleagues Nutan, PhD, Aleena Joseph, and Surya Kiran Vaddadi, explored a journey through one of India’s most interesting innovation hubs—#ElectronicCity, Bangalore.
Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre: We were warmly received by Dr. Mohamed Adil A.A, who unveiled the center’s pioneering efforts in biotechnology. Our discussions centered on how the #Dutchecosystem—renowned for its strengths in life sciences, agritech, and sustainable innovation—can synergize with India’s burgeoning biotech sector bringing mutual benefits.
IIIT-Bangalore Innovation Centre and IIITB Comet Foundation: Delving into India’s ambitious mission for digital inclusion, powered by a robust digital public infrastructure comprising Aadhaar, UPI, and DEPA. An exciting visit for us, as the Netherlands is at the forefront of digital innovation, from fintech to data governance. We also interacted with startups like Mantiswave Networks Private Limited & Zeuron.ai, exploring potential collaborations in digital transformation.
Syngene International Limited & Biocon Biologics: Our visit to this impressive titan in drug discovery, development and manufacturing followed by a networking lunch offering deep insights into their focus areas, including enzymes, generics, APIs, and advanced formulations. Syngene, with its state-of-the-art research facilities, and Biocon, a global leader in biosimilars, are at the cutting edge of pharmaceutical innovation. Given the Netherland’s reputation as a leader in Pharma R&D, sustainable practices and regulatory sciences, the potential for collaboration is immense with a focus on patient-centric healthcare models could provide invaluable insights as these Indian giants continue to expand globally.
MSMF-TBI and Narayana Health: The final stop of our visit led to a rich exchange with Dr.Paul C. Salins, Managing Director of MSMF-TBI, where we discussed academic partnerships, joint research, and startup support, including emerging areas like Quantum Computing. We also had an opportunity to learn about Immuneel Therapeutics Pvt. Ltd., pioneering in advanced cell and gene therapies in immuno-oncology. The Dutch ecosystem, known for its robust research institutions and cutting-edge tech startups, is ideally positioned to collaborate with Indian counterparts in these domains. Dr. Salins’ fond memories of early Dutch collaborations reaffirmed the deep, historic ties that continue to guide our collaborative spirit.
These visits highlighted the innovative spirit of Bangalore and also the incredible potential for the Dutch ecosystem to engage with and contribute to India’s innovation landscape, in life-sciences, health and biotech. The synergies we’ve identified promise a future of shared growth, innovation, and success for both nations.
