Roshan Lal Tamak, ED & CEO, Sugar Business- DCM Shriram Ltd , moderated a panel discussion on “Sustainable Fuels: Paving the Way for a Greener Future” organized by CII at 19th Sustainability Summit in New Delhi. The event featured esteemed speakers, Tina Sejersgård Fanø, Novonesis, Arushi Jain, Gulshan Polyols Ltd, and Pranab Ghosh, Adani Total Energies Biomass Ltd. Mr. Tamak opened the session by emphasizing sustainable fuels' crucial role in our journey toward a greener future. He highlighted the remarkable success of India’s ethanol blending program, which has surged from 1.5% in 2014 to an impressive 15% in 2024. This milestone demonstrates the potential of sustainable fuels in reducing our carbon footprint and enhancing energy security. Mr. Tamak also discussed Compressed Biogas (CBG) as a flourishing alternative green fuel under the SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) scheme. CBG offers a viable solution to our energy needs while addressing environmental concerns, making it a key player in the sustainable fuels landscape. He also acknowledged the challenges faced by the sustainable fuels sector, including feedstock availability, supply chain logistics, and infrastructure development. Overcoming these hurdles requires concerted efforts from all stakeholders, including government bodies, industry players, and the community. The discussion emphasized the necessity of a collaborative approach to pave the way for a greener future.
