📌How can cities with limited resources address severe air pollution? Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC India) researchers developed a low-cost, high-precision spatio-temporal model using data from portable sensors to create fine-grained pollution maps for Delhi. With predictions accurate within 1-hour windows and actionable insights, this approach could empower policymakers to improve air quality and health outcomes in highly polluted urban areas. 🤔How can strategic partnerships transform urban mobility in Delhi? The collaboration between Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC India) and the Planning Department, GNCTD aims to tackle vehicular pollution through evidence-based governance. This initiative introduces a High Pollution Early Warning System (HPEWS) and India’s first congestion pricing pilot, while enhancing monitoring of pollution norms. By promoting public transit and sustainable mobility, the partnership seeks to build capacity within government systems, ensuring long-term sustainability and replicability in reducing pollution and congestion across the city. Humanizing research findings - How often do we do that in science communication? Can visual storytelling through photo essays be a compelling approach to do that? At the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC India), we are constantly trying to experiment with different storytelling approaches to communicate high-quality research evidence. One such effort is this photo essay by my quietly talented colleague - Vikram Buragohain. Happy to know what you think about it.
Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC India)’s Vikram Buragohain travels to farmlands in Telangana that were part of a randomized controlled trial on monsoon onset forecasts. In this photo essay, he captures the faces and stories of farmers whose decisions, guided by these forecasts, resulted in higher food expenditures and savings, aiding EPIC’s groundbreaking study. #HYST - A recent study by Our Common Air finds and emphasizes the need for global collaboration to improve air pollution tracking, particularly focusing on PM2.5 and overlooked "super pollutants" like black carbon and tropospheric ozone. These pollutants harm both climate and public health. The study recommends integrating their tracking into countries' nationally determined contributions (NDCs) to enhance climate goals. While some developing nations are making progress, many require additional financial and technical support. International cooperation is essential to create a global system that enables countries to track pollutants and make data-driven decisions for sustainable outcomes. More: https://lnkd.in/gieEA7F3
