Potain towers build Italian eco development Italian construction companies CMB and Colombo Costruzioni are using eight Potain tower cranes on a construction project which the companies said will be the first mixed-use building in Milan with zero environmental impact. CityWave is the final building in one of Milan’s newest districts, CityLife. It aims to “stand as a new paradigm for the offices of the future” and features a 63,000 metre squared office and retail complex featuring two towers joined by a 140 metre curved-roof portico. CMB purchased a new Potain MDT 319 topless tower crane for the project, while Colombo purchased an MDT 219. Together, the companies combined these new models with a mix of Potain cranes from their existing fleets. Manitowoc’s specialist Lift Solutions team helped develop a work plan that optimised the construction schedule as the cranes climbed during the project, ensuring maximum productivity and minimal interference between the high density of cranes. The team also provided the necessary calculations for building anchorage, while the team in Italy handled the fabrication. Enzo Macis, jobsite director at CMB, said productivity and reliability were the most important factors in the work, “When we looked at crane planning, we weren’t focused as much on lifting capacity as we were on reliability and productivity. “It became a question of selecting the right models that would work together as the project changed shape while construction advanced. We needed to avoid interference, ensure operational reliability, and maintain optimal coverage of the site – not an easy task.” For more information on the Construction, Mining Equipment and Allied Industries, please reach us at www.equipmenttimes.in Ramamurthy Mayavan Philip Varghese Editor In Chief- EQUIPMENT TIMES #towercranes #constructionmachinery #infrastructure #contractor #constructionequipment #construction #manufacturing #machine #equipment

Production starts for key electric truck component Mercedes-Benz Trucks will begin series production of the eActros 600 electric truck at the end of November, with the first 600 customer vehicles to be manufactured and registered by the end of 2024. In anticipation of this, production has begun on the front box at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Mannheim, Germany, which also serves as the competence center for battery technology and high-voltage systems at Daimler Truck. The front box is a complex technology module that is a central component of the new vehicle, the company stated. It contains several control units, high-voltage components and an electric air compressor, and is positioned in the space previously occupied by the combustion engine. The front box does not have a specific drive function. Rather, it houses more than 1,000 individual parts essential for truck operation, Mercedes-Benz noted. Accommodating this number of components was achieved via a “layered structure,” in which individual components are built up from the bottom to the top. “The front box is an assembly-intensive unit for battery-powered vehicles,” said Andreas Moch, plant manager at the Mercedes-Benz Mannheim plant. “After a successful prototype phase, we are now pleased to be able to move into series production. Both the frame preparation and the installation of all individual components and the testing of these units are performed by the Mercedes-Benz Mannheim plant.” For more information on the Construction, Mining Equipment and Allied Industries, please reach us at www.equipmenttimes.in Mercedes-Benz Trucks UK Ramamurthy Mayavan Philip Varghese Editor In Chief- EQUIPMENT TIMES #electrictruck #technology #constructionmachinery #infrastructure #contractor #constructionequipment #construction #manufacturing #machine #equipment

Growth moderates at United Rentals in Q3 Specialty rentals activity has driven a 7.5% increase in United Rentals’ third quarter revenues, with its general rental business almost flat year-on-year. Specialty rentals, in areas such as trench shoring, power and pumps, saw a 23.9% increase to $1.13 billion, while its general rentals business rose by 0.9% to $2.32 billion. Third quarter revenues at United Rentals were up by 7.5%. Growth in specialty includes the impact of the acquisition of temporary roadway business Yak, which was concluded in March this year. Without that deal, specialty would still have grown by 14.8% year-on-year, while total equipment revenue growth would have been closer to 5%. Gross profit for the period was up 3.8% to $1.65 billion, with EBITDA profit 2.9% higher at $1.90 billion. The company has narrowed its full year forceast, with gross capital investment of fleet likely to be in the range of $3.55 billion to $3.75 billion - which compares to the previous guidance of $3.5-$3.8 billion. Matthew Flannery, chief executive officer of United Rentals, said he was pleased with the results “which were in-line with our expectations and reflected continued growth across both our construction and industrial end-markets.” He added; “As we enter the home-stretch of 2024, we’re happy to reaffirm the mid-points of our guidance across all metrics. Longer-term, we remain optimistic on the multiple secular tailwinds we see, particularly across large projects.” In its results presentations United does not provide detailed information on the performance of its businesses in Europe - where it has 39 locations - or Australia/New Zealand, with 56 branches. It has 1571 locations in North America. New Singapore distributor for Leguan Lifts Leguan Lifts has appointed a new distributor Spider Lift Asia for Singapore as it seeks further partners across Asia. With the appointment, Spider Lift Asia has replaced Jebsen & Jessen Technology as Leguan Lift’s representative in the country. This change, effective from June 2024, enables Leguan to better serve existing customers in sectors such as tree care and landscaping, including key projects like the Singapore Botanical Gardens, said the company. In preparation for the transition, Leguan Lifts has carried out training in September 2024, covering sales, service, and troubleshooting practices to ensure Spider Lift Asia is fully equipped to meet customer needs in the market. Leguan Lifts’ VP of Sales and Marketing Jori Mylläri, said, “Our previous distributor increasingly focused on different machinery sectors, which lead us to partner with Spider Lift Asia, a company. Mylläri added, “We are expanding our distribution network in the Asian market and are actively seeking for companies with a professional approach to introducing spider lifts in their own regions.” The first delivery to a customer of the new Leguan 225 spider lift took place in October, marking the beginning of the new distributor’s efforts to introduce Leguan’s next-generation all-terrain series to Singapore. Mark Guah, owner and CEO of Spider Lift Asia, added, “Leguan produces some of the best spider lifts in the world with unrivalled all terrain capabilities and user-friendly joystick controls with smart features.
