Breaking menstrual taboos mile by mile- Kiran Gandhi at the London marathon. "I ran the whole marathon with my period blood dripping down my legs for sisters who don't have access to tampons and sisters who, despite cramping and pain, hide it away and pretend like it doesn't exist" said Kiran Gandhi, the woman who bravely chose to "go with the flow" and run the 26.2 mile London marathon on her period without a tampon or a pad on April 26, 2015 to raise funds for the charity Breast Cancer care. As she crossed the finish line with blood- stained leggings- she sent a powerful message: "Menstruation is a natural process that shouldn't hold anyone back from achieving their goals." She let nothing, not even period stains, stop her from running the marathon and inspiring us all. Her story isn't just about finishing the marathon, it's about starting a conversation. Microscope on my Period Blood ! 'I remember the disgusting reaction of my friend when I showed her the sample of my menstrual blood', said Shama. Being a researcher, and while working with researchers from different countries, Shama says,' I don't understand why people alienate uterus and the menstrual blood. I have seen researches that prove menstrual blood can be used to detect various diseases and abnormalities in the body. In this way, menstruators can truly abide by- Prevention is better than cure.' Many experiments and researches are being conducted by scientists in different countries. So, embracing menstruation would prove more useful than hiding and disgusting this beautiful phenomenon.
