It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Chairman and Managing Director, Padmashree Dr. Keki H. Gharda, on September 30, 2024. Born on September 25, 1929, Dr. Gharda was a pioneering force in Chemistry and Chemical Technology. In 1964, he founded Gharda Chemicals Limited, which became a cornerstone of India’s chemical industry. His innovative work earned him the title “Father of the Indian Agro-Chemical Industry,” and his contributions have profoundly impacted agriculture, material sciences, and the pigments industry. With over 200 patents to his name, Dr. Gharda’s groundbreaking research in agrochemicals, pigments, polymers, and metallurgy has set new standards in the industry. His commitment to indigenous technology and import substitution has made India a leader in chemical innovations. Dr. Gharda’s belief in Karmayoga drove him to focus on the practical implementation of his ideas, benefiting society at large. Dr. Gharda’s legacy is carried forward by the Gharda Scientific Research Foundation, which he founded to advance scientific research for the greater good. His life’s work exemplifies the power of innovation and dedication to societal progress. Dr. Gharda will be remembered as a pioneer who transformed scientific knowledge into tangible benefits for humanity.
