This electrolyzer will be installed at a hydrogen production and refueling station in Jind, Haryana, under Indian Railways' "Hydrogen for Heritage" initiative. Key highlights of this groundbreaking electrolyzer: Produces 430 kg/day of hydrogen, operating 24/7. Delivers hydrogen at 40 bar (g) pressure and meets ISO 14687 standards for fuel cell applications. Supported by 3,000 kg hydrogen storage, a hydrogen compressor, and two hydrogen dispensers with integrated pre-coolers for efficient train refueling.     🌬️ Oxygen-Powered Engine: A New Era for Clean Mobility? 🚗💨 In the race towards sustainable transportation, a surprising concept has emerged—engines powered solely by oxygen, offering a fresh alternative to electric vehicles (EVs) and hydrogen technology. This breakthrough takes us back to the innovation of a Spanish inventor who proposed water-powered engines over fifty years ago. Now, the focus shifts to air, especially oxygen, as a fuel source that could potentially revolutionize clean mobility. While EVs and hydrogen-powered vehicles lead the current push for zero-emission transportation, oxygen-powered engines could offer advantages like affordability and efficiency. Compressed air technology, which Tata Motors explored in the early 2000s, operates on a basic principle: compressed air drives pistons, allowing the vehicle to run without conventional fuel. In 2007, Tata Motors even teamed up with Motor Development International (MDI) to develop air-powered cars in India. Despite the initial excitement, the project faced several challenges: Low energy density of compressed air compared to traditional fuels Infrastructure gaps, like the lack of high-pressure air refueling stations Safety concerns regarding high-pressure tanks Regulatory hurdles for unconventional propulsion systems Though Tata Motors' project didn't succeed, the concept still holds valuable lessons for future innovations in zero-emission vehicles. Compressed air engines, much like other experimental models using nitrogen or alcohol, highlight the quest for alternatives to conventional fuels. While not a perfect solution, the potential for oxygen-powered engines or other air-based systems offers an intriguing option as we look for ways to complement the growing EV sector.     🚆 India’s First Hydrogen Train Trials Set for December 2024! 🌍💨 Indian Railways is set to achieve a green transport milestone with trials of the country's first hydrogen train scheduled for December 2024. In collaboration with Germany's TÜV SÜD, Indian Railways will conduct a safety audit, positioning India among a select group of nations—Germany, France, Sweden, and China—to roll out hydrogen-powered trains. Key details: Hydrogen for Heritage Initiative: 35 hydrogen-powered trains will be introduced, each costing Rs 80 crore, with additional Rs 70 crore per route for infrastructure on heritage or hilly tracks. Hydrogen refueling infrastructure: Hydrogen will be supplied by a 1 MW Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) electrolyser in Jind, producing 430 kg of hydrogen daily, backed by a 3,000 kg storage unit and two hydrogen dispensers. A pilot project to retrofit a Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) with hydrogen fuel cells is underway, alongside new hydrogen-powered maintenance vehicles. This innovation will see the hydrogen-powered train operating along the Jind-Sonipat section of Northern Railway, with integration at the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai.     🚨 Low-Emissions Hydrogen Projects Outpace Policy Support: International Energy Agency (IEA) Report Highlights Urgent Need for Demand Stimulus 🌍 A new report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) signals that while investments in low-emissions hydrogen are accelerating, there is an urgent need for policies to stimulate demand in sectors like heavy industry, refining, and long-distance transport. Key findings include: Doubling of projects: The number of projects securing final investment decisions has doubled in the past year, potentially quintupling global production by 2030. Electrolyser capacity: Current capacity stands at 20 GW, with ambitions to produce nearly 50 million tonnes of hydrogen annually by 2030. China’s dominance: China leads with over 40% of electrolyser projects and accounts for 60% of global electrolyser production capacity. However, there are significant challenges: Demand gap: Global production targets of 43 million tonnes annually by 2030 vastly outpace projected demand, which only reaches 11 million tonnes. Policy shortfalls: Insufficient incentives and regulatory uncertainties continue to hinder the acceleration of demand, especially in industrial sectors where low-emissions hydrogen could reduce carbon footprints.     💡 Greenzo Energy and RBM INFRACON LIMITED Join Forces for 15 MW Green Hydrogen Projects in Gujarat 🌱 In a major step towards bolstering India's green hydrogen ecosystem, Greenzo Energy has signed an MoU with RBM Infracon to develop 15 MW green hydrogen facilities across Gujarat. This initiative, with an investment of ₹200 crore, will establish plants in Jamnagar, Kutch, and Bhuj. Key details of this transformative partnership include: Greenzo Energy, India's sole indigenous alkaline electrolyzer manufacturer, will lead the design, engineering, and procurement of the facilities. The project will use Greenzo's 5 MW electrolyzer units, built to withstand India's climate, capable of delivering hydrogen at 30 bar pressure—eliminating the need for compressors. The initial phase will kick off in Jamnagar by late FY 2024-25, followed by expansion to Kutch and Bhuj based on market demand. This collaboration underscores a shared vision for sustainability, especially in key sectors like refineries and fertilizers where green hydrogen will reduce carbon footprints and promote sustainable practices.
