  • Licensing and prior permissions to start commercial manufacturing should remain only for sectors that require compulsory licensing under the Industrial Policy or Consolidated FDI Guidelines. For example, the beauty and personal care industry still requires licensing in most parts and should instead be allowed to commence manufacturing after they comply with mandatory quality and safety standards. • The beauty and personal care industry is undergoing a sustainable science revolution, with biotechnology leading the charge. This trend is transforming product creation by aligning with the global push for sustainability. Traditional ingredient sourcing often results in environmental damage, but biotech offers a greener alternative. Researchers can now replicate natural processes in labs, producing ingredients with minimal environmental impact. Innovations include algae-derived compounds that regenerate skin and renewable peptides that replace petroleum-based ingredients. As interest in sustainable beauty soars, biotech is paving the way for a more eco-conscious industry.

  • IBHA is advocating for a new era of transparency in the beauty and personal care industry. We believe QR codes can empower consumers with easy access to product information such as Name and Address of the Manufacturer, Marketer, etc., while at the same time, decluttering the product packaging. Thereby making the product packaging better readable and consumer friendly. Currently, IBHA is in active discussion with the authorities to implement QR codes on beauty and personal care product labels and make information readily available at consumers’ fingertips. • A recent IPSOS study, commissioned by IBHA, reveals valuable insights into consumer behaviour when purchasing beauty and personal care products. The study found that:   ‣ Value for money is king: Consumers prioritise value for money – meticulously checking price, branding, manufacturing and expiry dates, quantity, and available offers. ‣ QR codes – A welcome solution: Consumers are comfortable accessing essential information, like pricing and expiration dates, through QR codes.   This research underscores the importance of providing consumers with clear and accessible information to empower informed purchasing decisions.   To learn more about the advantages of becoming an IBHA member, visit https://lnkd.in/d3pVVX93

  • India has regulations on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for plastic packaging, aimed at promoting environmental responsibility. These regulations require producers, importers, and brand owners to take responsibility for the entire lifecycle of their packaging, from production to disposal. But what do they mean for brands?    EPR obligations: The rules impose specific obligations on companies, including targets for recycling, reuse, and the use of recycled plastic content in packaging. Compliance requirements: Producers, importers, and brand owners must register with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and submit annual reports detailing their compliance with EPR obligations. Transparency and accountability: The regulations aim to increase transparency and accountability across the entire value chain, driving responsible plastic packaging practices.    Click here to read the full regulations: https://lnkd.in/dJ6nepJD
