This paper outlines a strategic approach for leveraging the City Gas Distribution network to maximize the conversions of small - medium scale industrial and commercial units from fossil fuels such as LPG, furnace oil, diesel, pet coke, naphtha or others to piped natural gas (PNG). The transition from liquid or solid fuels to natural gas offers numerous benefits, including reduced emissions, improved energy efficiency, and lower operational costs. However, it also presents several challenges, including the technical complexity of retrofitting existing equipment and ensuring regulatory compliance. Additionally, converting hard-to-abate small to medium-scale industries operating on solid fuels requires comprehensive natural gas transition solutions upfront. Providing a detailed roadmap for units considering the switch, covering the technological, financial, and operational aspects of such conversions, should be a key consideration going forward for City Gas Distribution firms.
