Ensuring that the future of bureaucracy is in tune with latest urban sustainable mobility interventions is critical. One such subject that is often misunderstood is the importance of parking management —an issue that, when addressed strategically, can redefine how urban spaces function. We are happy to share that ITDP India got the opportunity to reshape the bright minds of India’s future officers at the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA). In a training session organised for Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshwadeep, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu Civil Service (DANICS) probationers, we went through multiple aspects of Healthy Streets including parking. 🅿 🚗 We also played a game which drew inspiration from one developed by Paul Barter, international expert on parking management. Right from explaining what a Healthy Street constitutes, to going into finer details of parking management, we tinkered with their minds to approach things differently. The participants were curious to learn and had questions on aspects ranging from the economics of parking management to the manpower required in enforcement, to what more parking options are available beyond on and off-street parking systems. We had a fruitful discussion with them and here are some glimpses from the day- To learn more about parking, check out our Parking Basics guide- https://lnkd.in/gn7y9wv9 ITDP Team: Parin Visariya, Sangami Nagarajan, Shubhra Sharma #HealthyStreets #NIUA #ParkingManagement #SustainableMobility

To advance in its gender-responsive and multimodal transport system, the City of Bhubaneswar, India, has worked on innovative initiatives of Mo Bus and Mo E-Ride, an integrated network of city buses, and a feeder system of electric rickshaws. The systems were established to help address congestion, air pollution, safety, and the underrepresentation of women and transgender people. The case study on the City of Bhubaneswar, the 2023 Sustainable Transport Award (STA) honourable mention, can help inspire global cities, policymakers, and planners to rethink their transport systems, emphasizing sustainability, connectivity, inclusion, and workforce development. It also provides technical information and high-level lessons from Bhubaneswar’s mobility experiments to help others develop more tangible, forward-thinking transport solutions⚡🛺. Electrification of private buses is critical to achieving India’s Net Zero targets. Taking forward this discussion on electrification, ITDP India’s Bezylal Praysingh recently spoke at the ‘Driving the Future: Innovations and Strategies for Zero Emission Trucks (ZET)’ conference organised by Ease of Doing Business and presented by National Highways for EV. He was part of a panel discussion hosted by OMI Foundation – ‘India’s Ride to Sustainability through Electric Intercity Buses’. During the talk, he discussed about the challenges that private operators face in transitioning their fleets to electric, but also offered insights into what the potential solutions could be. With over 92% of buses owned and operated by the private sector, he underscored the need for policy interventions to accelerate e-bus adoption in India’s bus landscape to meet the national EV targets. The conference was partnered with Guidance Tamil Nadu and StartupTN, supported by FaMeTN and the Tamil Nadu Electric Vehicle Task Force. Last month, ITDP India, in partnership with the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU) and the Central Institute of Road Transport - CIRT, conducted a training workshop for State Transport Undertakings (STUs) officials. With this, across a span of one year, we have had the privilege of training over 250 officials across various states. In these training sessions, the key focus has been on two key areas: 1️⃣ Electric Bus Service Planning 2️⃣ Branding, Marketing, and Communications In the latest session, we received an overwhelmingly positive response from participants and are excited to continue empowering STU decision-makers to enhance their services for users.
