Growing up in the water-scarce Solapur district of Maharashtra, Abhijit Sathe lived through the harsh realities of water shortages, where a 24-hour water supply was a distant dream. This firsthand experience ignited his passion for water conservation, leading him to found JalSevak India, a company that specialises in greywater recycling systems for households and commercial buildings. JalSevak has developed a six-step process to recycle greywater from sinks and showers for non-potable uses, like watering plants and flushing toilets, reducing reliance on freshwater by up to 40%. With their systems now operating in 12 cities across India, Abhijit's company helps recycle 1.25 lakh litres of greywater daily, contributing significantly to the country’s water conservation efforts. #WasteToValueHeroes  Greywater recycling, an often overlooked practice in India, entails collecting, treating, and reusing wastewater from domestic activities (excluding toilet sewage). This offers a potential 40% reduction in freshwater usage in urban settings! JalSevak Solutions, a Pune-based startup, provides a solution for homes, apartments, offices, and commercial establishments to reuse greywater in activities like gardening, cleaning, and toilet flushing. Through the Swachhata Startups Challenge in collaboration with Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Agence Française de Développement, we offered JalSevak strategic technical assistance to obtain certifications, explore new markets, fundraise, expand outreach, and build connections with Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and governmental entities to enhance their impact. During the program, JalSevak implemented its solution in 25 locations across India and saved 6,77,000L of water.
