The two exhibitions will stand independently while conversing through the art-making journeys of the artists. Mohan Samant (1924 – 2004) and Amitava (b.1947) represent two distinct generations, each displaying mastery in their individual trajectories, resulting in astonishing forms and figurations on pictorial surfaces. If We Knew the Point - Amitava showcases Amitava’s diverse styles and materials. His work, characterized by bold colors, intricate textures, and abstract forms, emphasizes that ‘art is to be experienced,’ not reasoned out. Amitava navigates between painting, sculpture, and mixed media, creating a poetic interplay of materiality and imagery. Magic in the Square - Mohan Samant, Centennial Exhibition is a tribute to Samant, highlighting his unorthodox approach and deep roots in his homeland, despite his life in New York.
