Kotak - IIT Madras Save Energy Mission (KISEM) team recently conducted a comprehensive Energy Audit at Shreyas Machine Tools, a Tier 2 contractor catering to leading MNCs in the casting and machining sector. With an annual energy consumption of 5,60,000 kWh and an annual energy cost of ₹44,50,000, optimizing energy efficiency was a key priority. Our in-depth analysis identified several opportunities for improvement, including power quality enhancements, advanced power factor correction, and optimized compressor efficiency. By addressing air leakages, refining furnace performance, upgrading to energy-efficient lighting and cooling systems, ensuring effective capacity utilization of air compressors , and arresting leakages in compressed air lines , we uncovered a potential 25% reduction in energy consumption. This translates to annual energy savings of approximately ₹14,00,000 and a carbon reduction of 150 metric tonnes. By implementing strategic upgrades such as demand optimization, high-efficiency furnace systems, BLDC fans, and LED lighting, Shreyas Machine Tools can achieve significant cost savings while enhancing sustainability and operational efficiency.
