Reflecting on the inspiring National Conclave on Gender Mainstreaming, hosted by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY - NRLM), in collaboration with IWWAGE - an initiative of LEAD at Krea University held on September 20th, 2024 at New Delhi, India. This event highlighted the critical need to strengthen gender-responsive community institutions and foster strategies for gender integration within the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY - NRLM) framework. It was incredible to witness discussions on empowering women’s collectives, addressing structural inequalities ⚖️, and advocating for tailored, context-specific solutions for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across India. 👩👩👧👧 Key takeaways from the event: 🠮 The importance of building capacities at every level—SHGs, Village Organisations (VOs), and Cluster Level Federations (CLFs). 🠮 The need for customized solutions to combat unpaid care work, wage gaps, and the unequal division of labour. 🠮 Engaging men, boys, and youth to challenge traditional gender norms and foster inclusive spaces for empowerment. A heartfelt thank you to all the leaders, stakeholders and participants who are driving this critical agenda, and to every SHG member whose strength and leadership make this mission possible. 🙏 The path to gender equality is a collective journey, and events like these bring us a step closer to achieving inclusion and empowerment for rural women across India. LEAD at Krea University reposted this
Last week, our Associate Director and India Lead for DataDelta, Diksha Radhakrishan, joined a panel discussion at the Gender x Digital hub conference hosted by LEAD at Krea University. Diksha shared valuable insights on how we should approach measuring digital access. She emphasized the importance of looking beyond ownership to consider maintenance, consistent access, agency, and cultural norms around phone use. Digital access is a pathway to identity, livelihood, and economic security for women, and without comprehensive measurement, true digital inclusion will remain limited. At DataDelta, we’re dedicated to creating gender-intentional metrics that reflect the complexity of women’s lives and decisions. We have developed processes and tools to enhance gender sensitivity in our research and ensure that decisions are based on data that is inclusive. 🔗 Learn more about our work at DataDelta here: https://lnkd.in/ddWH4G9t 🙏 A big thank you to LEAD at Krea University and the organizers for having us!
