Site Visit Recently, our team members Ajinkya and Mahendra conducted a site survey of a pond in Pune cantonment area, in collaboration with the Poonawala group. During the survey we identified several key challenges: algal blooms, unstable banks, wild vegetation overgrowth, and low oxygen levels. Team lemnion is now working on tailored solutions to address these issues. Our goal is to enhance the pond’s aquatic biodiversity, reduce algal bloom growth, stabilize the banks and create a healthier ecosystem overall. Water Stress and Scarcity - Supporting 16% of the world’s inhabitants is daunting enough, India only possesses 4% of the world’s fresh water. The Why ? 70 % of the sewage that India generates is not treated. Indian cities generate around 62,000 million liters per day (MLD) of sewage, but the treatment capacity of only about 38% 4,000 septic trucks of sludge -disposed in the Ganges, its tributaries every day 2 million tonnes of sewage, effluents discharged - in the water supply every day Annually - Industry releases an estimated 300-400 mega tonnes of waste into water bodies Industrial & agricultural activities have contributed to water contamination in India As per WWF, there has been a significant decline in freshwater biodiversity the world over As a part of our CLIMEYE series, Ramneek Bhatia had a detailed interaction with the founder of Lemnion Green Solutions Pvt Ltd, Pooja Tendulkar discussing several key aspects of the nature based solutions for treating polluted surface water bodies like Lakelets, ponds, reservoirs and also treating water in Urban Ecosystems like farms, bungalows and institutions.
