Economic Survey: Lend A Hand India model to operationalise Vocational Education We are excited to announce that Lend A Hand India has received significant recognition from the Government of India. Our work has been featured in the Economic Survey of India 2023-24, which is an important annual publication by the Ministry of Finance. Chapter 7.68 of the survey dedicates a paragraph to our model, showcasing not only our approach to Vocational Education but also how civil society can collaborate to implement government policies. Here’s an excerpt from the survey: "7.68: To implement vocational education across the learning ladder, the model of Lend A Hand India (LAHI), an NGO, is a good example. The LAHI model involves civil society’s collaboration with the government to introduce vocational education as a core curriculum component, establish labs, recruit and train vocational trainers, organize internships, and provide placement support. By offering comprehensive vocational education services and engaging with key stakeholders, civil society can actively participate in implementing the innovative features of NEP 2020." This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team. While we never sought such accolades, it is incredibly rewarding to see our efforts acknowledged on such a prestigious platform. We are hopeful about collaborating with many partners from civil society who can play an active role in implementing the novel features of NEP 2020. Find more information at https://lnkd.in/gpx5U2Kp. About us
Lend A Hand India, established in 2006 in Pune, Maharashtra, is a non-profit organization working at the intersection of education and livelihood to provide youth employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. Lend A Hand India focuses on integrating vocational education with mainstream education at secondary and higher secondary education levels (Grades 9-12 and students aged 14-18) to make secondary education more meaningful and interesting for their sustainable livelihoods. We set up labs with requisite tools and equipment, recruit and train qualified vocational trainers, arrange internship opportunities for the students, and get them assessed and certified, followed by placement support. Students are also provided internship opportunities with small or micro-enterprises to help them gain real-life exposure to the “World of Work.” We also bridge the gap between policy and execution by providing technical and project management support to the state governments to scale up vocational education. Our team members are co-located within the state education department, helping the state formulate the policy for vocational education and ensure effective execution. Out of 270+ employees, 50+ Lend A Hand India staff members support 25 states across India. Lend A Hand India's current scale in partnership with state governments is 12,000+ schools with 1.2 million+ students.

We are hiring. We want you in Shimla if … You have taken risk and failed ! You made something happen against all odds… filed an RTI.. adopted a street dog? or managed to keep a plant alive for more than a month You studied one field and have made a career in completely different field You think that nothing is rocket science except of course, rocket science ! You are the first person in the generations to go to high school You went against your parents wishes to do something and the rest of the world thinks that you are crazy No matter what was the financial condition of your parents, you managed to make some money before you turned 18 Your mission statement is “I will figure it out” ! You think that no work is beneath you (including cleaning toilets and class room) ! You were laid off from a job but managed to bounce back You ran away from your parents home Your first ten sales calls were failures but you still kept it on and eventually made it! You can laugh at your failure You have run a full marathon, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, have tracked to Everest Base Camp (or better, Everest itself) You eloped and got married to your sweetheart because he/she was the one Finally.. You can calculate 18 multiplied by 16 without a calculator :)

Meet Pratiksha and Amrita—two young women breaking barriers and forging their paths. These inspiring girls were recently invited to a panel co-hosted by Lend A Hand India as part of Charcha 2024, an organization that truly believes in giving youth a platform to voice their thoughts and share their stories. I'm so proud to see them sharing the stage with a highly esteemed panel. For Pratiksha Mishra, this was her first time speaking in front of such a large audience, and she nailed it. Her confidence and clarity left many of us in awe. As a student who chose to study Healthcare and completed an internship in grade 12, Pratiksha shared her challenges, not with the usual complaints, but with a raw honesty that struck a chord with everyone in the room. She spoke about her initial hesitation and fear of commuting alone—a challenge that was uniquely hers. But what’s even more inspiring is her determination to keep learning and growing, no matter what obstacles lie ahead. Then there’s Amrita Mishra, a college student who manages her studies while also running a successful chocolate business. Her passion for learning is infectious, and she’s become a strong advocate for Vocational Education. She could give a crash course alongside Raj Gilda on NEP 2020 and NCF anytime, anywhere! These girls are more than role models—they’re trailblazers, and it's incredible to witness their journey.
