On October 22nd, we had the pleasure speaking at Rice University for the Sawyer Seminar Series! In light of October being both Breast Cancer Action and Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we spoke about the importance of patient rights in digital health technology development in the panel discussion “No Aggregation without Representation.” 💻🎙️ We discussed with medical students and faculty the unique risks of patient health data and highlighted the need for better cybersecurity in healthcare. We also emphasized the importance of stronger patient representation and protections around electronic health records and social media—especially as more patients engage online to share knowledge about their health. Our call to action: “Without representation, we can’t advance rights, interests and voices of patient communities in health technology. As individuals, we have to take collective action.” Aligning with the Light Collective’s mission, patient communities can and should challenge and create policies that are at the service of protecting patients’ health and data. #PatientDataRights #HealthEquity #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #CybersecurityAwareness Month

Recently we joined many of our members at AcademyHealth's Health Datapalooza. Check out wisdom from Danny van Leeuwen, creator of Health Hats Podcast. 👉 Patients rarely use health apps, they use tools. 👉 They use these tools to project manage time, people, records, and tasks 👉 Finding a practice that works, we (patients and caregivers) don't mess with what work. 👉 If you cannot conjure a use case from lived experience, you aren't going to get patients to use it. 👉"Invite people with lived experience into your teams as a full time member." - #BeLikeLight https://lnkd.in/g5eV_bGn
