Did You Know? Facts About Adoption & Foster Care in India Adoption and foster care offer hope to millions of orphaned and vulnerable children in India. Here are some key facts: 🧒 30 million+ children in India are orphaned or abandoned, but only a small percentage are legally eligible for adoption. 💻 Adoption is regulated by CARINGS under CARA. Parents must register online and complete a thorough screening process. ⏳ The average wait time for adoption can be 2 to 4 years, though special needs adoptions may happen faster. 🏡 Foster care is still growing in India. While supported by the ICPS, cultural barriers and lack of awareness slow its progress. 💙 More families are opening up to special needs adoptions, which are often prioritized for quicker placement. ⚖️ Adoption is governed by two main laws: HAMA for Hindus and the Juvenile Justice Act (JJ Act) for others. 🚸 Social stigmas, lack of awareness, and slow legal procedures are challenges that need to be addressed to make adoption and foster care more accessible. At LWB India, we work to support orphaned children, providing care, education, and Fostercare/Adoption Workshop. Every child deserves a loving family, and together we can make that a reality. From Institution to Loving Foster Families Priya has been placed to a kind empathetic couple, who have showered her with love and care. Even though Priya faced an uncertain beginning, her foster parents have become her pillars of support, creating a haven of happiness. Presently, Priya is thriving both physically and emotionally. Priya’s health is tip-top with no history of illness. She radiates happiness and has seamlessly adjusted to her new, loving family. This year, Priya started her academic journey in Class V. The excitement doesn’t stop there! She has joined private tuition classes and a weekly painting and reciting class, which would serve as a testament to her dedication towards her learning and growing. What makes Priya even more extraordinary is her passion for painting, reciting poems, and enjoying quality TV time. Priya’s artistic flair is a sight to behold, reflecting the vibrant spirit within. Kudos to Priya’s foster parents for nurturing her academic pursuits and fostering a sense of community.
