Last month, on September 10th, I had the pleasure of judging the Semi-Final rounds of the 2024 Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot, upon the invitation of Linda Black who organized and managed the competition with remarkable efficiency. It was an honor to serve as an arbitrator alongside Gordon Smith and Dr. Artemis P. Malliaropoulou. The 2024 Deakin Moot centered on a complex commercial dispute between Alba Seafood Importing & Exporting Ltd. and Zephyr Fishing Corp., involving breaches of a long-term fish supply contract, with key issues relating to the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and the CISG. The problem challenged participants' understanding of international arbitration, contract law, and the sale of goods, offering invaluable insights into real-world commercial disputes and the resolution of cross-border trade conflicts. I’d like to extend my gratitude to Deakin University for this thoughtful token of appreciation.
